Proposed changes on ESG reporting requirements

Webcast invitation

28 June 2019

Hong Kong Stock Exchange issued in May 2019 a consultation paper proposing the following enhancements on ESG reporting for Hong Kong listed companies:

  • Requiring disclosures of:
  1. A board statement setting out the board’s consideration of ESG issues
  2. Significant climate-related issues which have impacted and may impact the issuer
  3. Applications of relevant reporting principles and boundaries in the ESG report
  • Amending the “Environmental” key performance indicators (KPIs) to require disclosure of relevant targets
  • Upgrading the disclosure obligations of “Social” KPIs to “comply or explain”
  • Shortening the deadline for publication of ESG reports

Subject to responses to the consultation, the above requirements may take effect from financial years commencing on or after 1 January 2020.

Please refer to the attached flyers for more information.

We invite you to join our webcast to understand more about the proposed changes and how listed companies could be better prepared for compliance with these changes.
