Tell us about your career path at Deloitte (How long have you worked for Deloitte, how has your career evolved?)

I interned with Deloitte Southeast Asia in 2011 for one month with the Human Resources team and loved every second of it. I left to complete my Bachelor’s degree knowing that when I graduate, I’d want to work in Deloitte SEA Consulting. I started working full-time with Deloitte SEA in December 2016 and have been here since. My role has continuously evolved over the last 10 months with added responsibilities and new tasks. I was sent to a training program, Consulting 101, which really helped in developing my skills in consulting given that I am from a finance background.

What has been your favorite part of working for Deloitte?

My favorite part about working with Deloitte SEA is definitely the team and people I get to interact with. In my opinion, this truly stems from the culture that has been cultivated by top management. It is a culture of inclusivity and development.

What has been most interesting, challenging, or surprising about working for Deloitte?

The most interesting thing about working for Deloitte SEA is that there isn’t too large of an emphasis on hierarchy or status. I think this is very interesting as, in past organizations, I could tell that entry-level staff were afraid to approach top management. At Deloitte SEA, we aren’t. In fact, we’re excited to be able to communicate, brainstorm and socialize with the leadership team.

What will stand out for you as the greatest benefit of working for Deloitte?

To me, the greatest benefit of working for Deloitte SEA is also my favorite part of working for the firm. It is the people and culture that encourages development and pushing ourselves to the limit and beyond it. It is a culture that truly develops my personal and professional self. It acts as a great launch pad for growth.

What is it about working for Deloitte that inspires you the most?

The one thing that inspires me the most about working for Deloitte SEA is the sense of commitment from each and every person I interact with. We are invested in our clients, our colleagues and ourselves. The people here strive to deliver beyond the best for our clients while ensuring great communication and collaboration with our colleagues (across borders if necessary) and being open to learning new things. This results in the best possible outcome for all parties involved.

What inspires me the most is that we care.

How has Deloitte invested in you as a leader, helping you grow?

Deloitte SEA has invested in me in more ways than one. It all started on Day One. I was assigned a counselor and she assisted me in developing a plan to ensure the goals I set out are achievable. Apart from that, being able to attend training at Deloitte University, with peers from different offices overseas, ensures development. Finally, the projects I have been assigned have challenged me and I believe that through overcoming challenges, I am able to see what I’m truly capable of and continuously grow from that.

How do you feel that you have been able to make an impact while working at Deloitte?

Deloitte SEA has taught me a very important skill—to be invested in everyone around me. I have contributed to making an impact for the clients I work with and also in my personal life. Being able to assist clients with solving problems they face is one way I’ve made an impact working at Deloitte. Apart from that, I am part of Deloitte SEA’s Impact Day activities where this year a group of us will be going to an autism community center and assisting with a swimming class, helping the swim teachers and cleaning the center.

What is one thing that people might be surprised to learn about you?

I think the one thing most people are surprised to learn about me is that I took the risk to live, work, and study in six countries over the span of 10 years.
