Importance of education and skill development over the next decade

With nearly a quarter of India’s population being in the age of attending school and college, the benefit of the country’s demographic dividend can be realized through a robust education and skill development eco-system. The quality of India’s education system will determine how the youth develops knowledge, skills and expertise essential for maintaining the momentum of economic growth. In a scenario of technology led disruptions, skill requirements are ever-changing. Today it is difficult to predict nearly half the expertise and skill sets which will be required in the next 5 years. The concept of lifelong learning will have to be embedded in the way we teach youth. Innovation will be a critical component for our industries and services and there is a need to transform the country’s education system to inculcate a culture of research and innovation in our youth.
