Yearly Status of School Education (YeSSE) in states and union territories of India 2022.

The school education segment has for long felt a need for a source of reliable comprehensive analysis at the state and union territory level. To meet this requirement, we bring to you the first annual report on the status of school education in states and union territories of India.
The report is structured around two complementary parts. Part I focuses on key themes and developments around school education in India, whereas Part II emphasizes on the key statistics related to school education. The report draws data from the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE+) 2020-21 report, Ministry of Education (MoE), and the Performance Grading Index (PGI) 2019-20 report for states and union territories, MoE.
Given the significant disruption caused by COVID-19, Part I starts with a chapter on “School education post pandemic”. The chapter captures some key initiatives and measures undertaken by policymakers and schools to address the adverse impact of COVID-19 on the school education system. This is followed by a chapter on “Early childhood care and education,” which is one of the cornerstones of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is of relevance to the school education ecosystem. Part I ends with a chapter on “Implementation of NEP 2020,” which highlights some key measures undertaken after the announcement of the policy.

Part II carries country-level analysis and trends for key parameters, such as Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER), enrolment by different levels of school education, Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR), and infrastructure availability in schools. It captures the PGI score of states and union territories for 2019-20 across different parameters, followed by profiles of individual states and union territories.
