Rohit Berry, President, Strategy, Risk & Transactions, Deloitte India
Rohit leads the Strategy, Risk & Transactions practice in Deloitte India. He has more than 30 years of experience in M&A, with a specialisation in originating, structuring and implementing cross border and domestic transactions. He has advised Fortune 500 multinationals companies and Indian business houses in strategising and implementing complex M&A matters, covering a host of financial, business, fiscal and regulatory issues.
Some recent transactions include sale of largest consumer and beauty business in India to Carlyle, managing amongst the largest merger in listed agro-chemical space and sale of shares in secondary market, sale of Indian assets of Western auto component companies and reorganising/consolidating Indian operations of large European packaging company.
On cross border transactions between India and Japan over last two decades, Rohit has been recognized as the most prominent advisor for various big and mid-sized companies across sectors. In his capacity as a trusted business advisor, Rohit has also served as an India board member of various prominent Japanese companies, including Sumitomo Chemicals, Daikin, Yanmar, Sanyo and NOK Group.
Rohit started his career with Andersen, and before joining Deloitte was the leader of Deal Advisory and One M&A practice in KPMG India. He was also the founding member of BMR and set up the M&A practice in the firm. He has been leading the India- Japan network across the various organisations he has worked over the last 30 years.
Rohit’s work finds mention in various M&A related publications and surveys, and he has conducted seminars and workshops for existing and prospective investors, on India M&A experiences in various countries. Rohit is a gold medalist from Delhi University, with Chartered Accountant and Chartered Secretary (company law) being his professional qualifications and accredited with an INSEAD Executive Leadership Program.
