Webinar

The impact of EU regulation on value chain decarbonization

Monday 11 march 2024 | Zoom Platform

On March 11 2024, Deloitte Climate & Sustainability, in collaboration with the EMEA Sustainability Regulation Hub*, organized the webinar "The impact of EU regulation on value chain decarbonization".

During the event Ramón Bravo-González, Decarbonization and Nature Lead of the Hub, presented the Sustainability Regulation Outlook 2024, with particular focus on decarbonization. Ramón provided an overview of how sustainability reporting requirements under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) could be leveraged by companies. This was complemented with an introduction to key decarbonization regulations affecting companies in 2024, especially related to raw materials, sustainable fuels, green infrastructure and energy. The presentation concluded with a summary of the remaining public policy issues surrounding decarbonization to reach the EU’s decarbonization goals, and with some practical actions that companies can do now.

The topic was then further discussed during a round table, moderated by Simon Brennan, Head of the Hub, featuring:

  • Stefanie Kneer, Head of ESG & Sustainability at Three Hills;
  • Eleonora Pessina, Group Sustainability Officer at Pirelli;
  • Barbara Terenghi, Executive Vice President of Sustainability at Edison.

The panelists provided valuable insights from their respective industries on the impact of European regulations on value chain decarbonization, underlining the most significant challenges experienced and how the companies involved responded to them. During the roundtable the importance of transparency was also underlined, together with the need of engaging with all stakeholders to anticipate regulatory requirements and of having full awareness of what are the risks and opportunities connected to sustainable development.

*The EMEA Sustainability Hub is a source of critical regulatory strategy insight and advice, designed to help business leaders understand and assess how sustainability regulation will drive the evolution of business strategies and operating models. As sustainability regulatory requirements and standards expand, it is essential to adopt a strategic approach to navigate the complexity, and to engage with regulators proactively.
