Sofia's Boston experience

From Sweden to Boston, US!

It is difficult to explain the happiness I felt when I received the phone call confirming that I was one of the lucky two from Sweden who would be a Global Intern with the Deloitte US member firm the summer of 2014. I still remember the moment very clearly. Now that memory, six months ago, has turned in to an exciting journey of which I am so grateful to have experienced. This summer I spent in Boston, US as an Audit Intern. I can now say that I absolutely love the city. The ocean, the green gardens in the middle of the city, the mixture of old beautiful buildings and modern skyscrapers

There were two interns in Boston this summer, Miriam, from Deloitte Spain’s Madrid office, and me. Miriam and I lived together in a lovely apartment situated in one of the best areas of Boston. (We lived right behind the clock tower that you can see in the picture.) I am really glad that Miriam and I had each other during this experience. Together we created a bucket list of things we wanted to do during our stay in Boston and we worked our way through the whole list! Our adventures also included a visit to Harvard and Cape Cod.

During the month I lived in Boston, I worked from the client’s office, so I got a good understanding of how it is to work for the Deloitte US firm as an audit assistant on a day-to-day basis. I also had the opportunity to work closely with first year, senior, and audit managers, all of whom shared their own stories and experiences with me. This got me really excited about a future career with the Deloitte network of member firms. Everyone was so wonderful to me and incredibly helpful and made me feel like a part of the team from day one. I had the chance to work on meaningful assignments and felt that I learned a lot, and was able to help. I also had a Buddy and a counselor assigned to me, both of whom made sure I felt at home in this new country.

The Global Internship Program is a priceless experience, which I feel fortunate to have participated in. I would recommend the Global Internship Program to anyone interested in a career with a Deloitte member firm. As an intern this summer I have had a taste of the exiting career-journey that lies ahead of me, and I cannot wait for it to begin!
