Deloitte and Kazakh Invest hold seminar for Chinese investors

Deloitte and Kazakh Invest National Company hosted a seminar dedicated to developing Kazakhstan’s investment environment in Beijing as part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The objective of the event on 22 October 2018 was to boost cooperation across the largest sectors in the Kazakhstan and China economies.

Dina Tasbulatova, a partner and general director of Deloitte TCF LLP says, “We believe this event, organized jointly by Kazakh Invest and Deloitte, will boost Kazakhstan-China relations and promote investment in both countries. Deloitte has held the event for five consecutive years and it has become a major platform bringing investors and companies together.”

At the seminar, Deloitte and Kazakh Invest presented 17 investment projects worth more than USD8 billion in mining, chemicals, petrochemicasl, transportation, logistics and energy to the largest Chinese companies and investors. Seminar participants included officials from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in China, Kazakhstan company executives and Chinese investors.

Alexander Krylov, CIS Department Leader in Deloitte China adds, “Kazakhstan has been recognized in the CIS for a number of years as an attractive investment target for China. Kazakhstan’s key position in Central Asia and its proximity to China and Russia present a real opportunity for Chinese companies.

"This is the 10th event devoted to China-CIS investments within last 5 years, and we truly value the cooperation provided by Kazakh Invest and the Kazakhstan Embassy in China”.

Over the last two years, participants have been looking at projects that may be implemented under the BRI. The BRI is an international initiative by China aimed at improving existing transport, energy and trade routes— and creating new ones—between Central and South Asia and Europe. The ideas behind the concept were explained by Chinese President Xi Jinping and first presented in his speech in Astana during a state visit to Kazakhstan in September 2013.

Kazakh Invest National Company, together with Deloitte, is looking at new investment opportunities in countries including the UK, Germany, Singapore and Japan.
