Deloitte opens its Southeast Asia Regional Capability Centre in Malaysia

1,000 job opportunities for professionals in Malaysia to boost service capabilities in the region

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 June 2023 – Deloitte today announced the opening of their Southeast Asia Regional Capability Centre (RCC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The RCC is designed to deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end suite of professional services to clients in the region across Deloitte’s five businesses – Audit & Assurance, Consulting, Financial Advisory, Risk Advisory and Tax – in a way that is seamless and cost efficient.

Strategically located in Kuala Lumpur, the RCC leverages Malaysia’s central geographic location within Southeast Asia and its reputation as a competitive destination for high-value investments. This move will allow Deloitte to enhance its regional presence and position the organisation to meet the increasing demand for professional services in Southeast Asia.

One key highlight of the RCC is that it requires talent with a wide array of skills and expertise to deliver its services that span the five businesses. Deloitte anticipates scaling up the RCC to over 1,000 employees within the year, with a plan to develop capabilities in data science and analytics, forensic investigation, supply chain management, digital transformation, cyber security, and cloud computing. This creates opportunities for the local talent and will help uplift the professional services sector in Malaysia.

Nurturing talent at every stage

Deloitte’s comprehensive talent development program aims to cultivate talent at every stage, starting from the foundational school years through tertiary education and continuing the journey as Deloitte professionals.

Part of Deloitte’s global WorldClass initiative, KidsEdu is the Malaysian flagship CSR program with the aim of improving academic performance of primary school children in the B40 community, aged between 7 and 12. Established in June 2019, weekly physical classes for English, Mathematics and Science were held in selected PPRs within the Klang Valley.

With the pandemic, classes pivoted online, which enabled the program to expand its outreach. Virtual classes are now held once every fortnight with more than 1,100 students tuning in from 7 locations, across 6 states nationwide. Collectively, the program has impacted more than 2,100 students out of which 1,000 have graduated, on completion of their primary school. Classes are facilitated by more than 190 Deloitte professionals, who have served 1,300 volunteer hours and counting!

With online classes, it also meant that students needed technology to attend. From June 2020, the firm has distributed a total of 572 laptops, with a commitment of providing 200 refurbished laptops to the community annually. In conjunction with the launch and the 55th anniversary of Deloitte in Malaysia, the firm made a pledge to provide 550 refurbished laptops from 1 January 2023 to 1 January 2025.

The KidsEdu initiative would not have been possible without the relentless support of organisations such as Hewlett Packard Malaysia, who provided laptops at a heavily discounted rate; the YTL Foundation, who furnished students with YES 4G data plan; as well as student volunteers from Monash University Malaysia and TAR UMT, who were instrumental in refreshing laptops for use.

Regional Capability Centres are an acknowledgement of this new world, and a stake in the exciting possibilities.”
