Forging better balance and equality for 1,300 female employees through well-rounded programmes at Deloitte Malaysia

Allowance of flexible hours for working and nursing mothers, and development of women leadership skills a priority

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 March 2019 – With nearly 65% of its workforce being women, Deloitte Malaysia (or “the firm”) aims to achieve a sustainable balanced workplace environment within its offices and contribute towards the national target to increase female participation in the workplace. A UNICEF-Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) report has shown that there is direct correlation between the increase in national economic growth and positive female workforce participation[1].

Deloitte Malaysia is proud to support this year’s International Women’s Day theme of #BalanceforBetter, and introduced various women-related initiatives with the purpose of creating women leaders, as well as to create a gender balanced environment in the workplace.

To accommodate the needs of working and nursing mothers, the firm has recently initiated benefits including flexible work-from-home arrangement, and amenities to accommodate nursing mothers’ needs such as five nursing rooms with new refrigeration facilities at its Kuala Lumpur office.

Heeding the joint UNICEF-SSM’s call to provide support for women leaders in decision-making positions, Deloitte Malaysia is proud to be the first entity in its regional network to initiate dedicated leadership programmes for women employees. Started in 2017, the ‘Deloitte Women Leading with Impact’ programme identifies high potential women employees and equips them with the necessary tools for their long term career growth. Since its inception, the programme has benefitted 40 Deloitte female leaders and counting.

The series of initiatives underlines Deloitte Malaysia’s commitment to embrace and promote diversity, equality and inclusion in the workplace to develop a sustainable work environment where women employees feel included, supported and engaged.

“Promoting and increasing gender diversity in the workplace has been consistently driven forward by the government, and we are one of the biggest corporate supporters of gender balance. At Deloitte Malaysia, three of our five business functions are led by women and I have personally witnessed the benefits of leadership diversity. I strongly believe that there will come a time when diversity is not just a quota or a requirement but a necessity for organisations to propel into the future,” said Yee Wing Peng, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Malaysia.

Ang Weina, Deloitte Women Leading with Impact Programme Leader of Deloitte Malaysia said, “We understand the need to empower and advance women to attract, develop and retain talented women at Deloitte. We do this by providing various leadership and mentoring programmes, and hard and soft skill courses to support their career growth. In order to make a meaningful contribution to progress gender diversity at the firm, we develop women leadership programmes and push for our senior leaders to champion diversity efforts and narrow the gender gap.”

Deloitte Malaysia is a proud supporter of gender balance at the workplace, and is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful working culture as well as supporting women employees to achieve work and family balance at home.
