The Malaysian Accounting Standards Board (the Board) had issued new accounting standards, namely MFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers and MFRS 9 Financial Instruments (the new Standards) which was effective for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2018.

These new Standards will likely present several technical accounting and key implementation challenges for entities.

Morning Session:

MFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers Public Seminar

The introduction of MFRS 15 marks a major change in one of the most important topics for financial reporting – revenue recognition. Companies across all industries have experienced impact on many aspects of business.

This session will focus to bring participants the understanding of the requirements of MFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers.

Disclosure Requirements - MFRS 15 and MFRS 7

With the introduction of MFRS 15 Revenue from Contracts with Customers and MFRS 9 Financial Instruments, and an effective date of 1 January 2018, companies across all industries will need to present financial statements in accordance to the extensive disclosure requirements based on the newly implemented accounting standards.

Izzad Shamsudin
Partner, Assurance
Deloitte Malaysia

Izzad has more than 10 years of experience in the public accounting practice. Prior to joining Deloitte, he was Head of Finance and ICT in a multinational company and a Senior Audit Manager in another Audit firm.

Izzad’s clients include small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and multinational and public-listed companies from various industries including banking and financial markets, manufacturing, retail, media and commerce. He also has extensive experience with clients from the banking sector and government-linked companies (GLCs).

He was also a manager in an advisory practice specialising in banking and capital markets. His advisory exposure includes being a programme manager and advisor for the setup of the Islamic Banking Window of a foreign bank, facilitator and content developer for a senior management strategy retreat for a leading development financial institution and manager for a simulation exercise involving a bank failure for a leading statutory body.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) with a degree in accounting science from Cardiff University, United Kingdom.

Mohamad Faisal Rasheed
Director, Assurance
Deloitte Malaysia

Faisal has more than 12 years of experience in the public accounting practice with Deloitte. His experience comprises clients ranging from small limited companies to large public-listed companies and multinational corporations involved in financial services, manufacturing, banking, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT), property development, trading and services.

He has advised companies on the adoption of appropriate accounting policies and practices and was involved in Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards, International Financial Reporting Standards, implementation projects and various accounting advisory services in Malaysia and Cambodia.

Faisal has also developed MFRS 9 assessment tools to assist clients in the adoption of the said standard and involved various accounting advisory engagements to advise on specific accounting treatment.

Foo Mei Yin
Senior Manager, Assurance
Deloitte Malaysia

Mei Yin has experience in the public accounting practice in other Big Four firm. She has been involved in the audits of local subsidiaries of large multinational corporations, public and private companies that operate in various industries including property development and construction, conglomerate (investment holding, distribution, property management, plantation, property development and secretarial), Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT), education, engineering services, trading, manufacturing and retail industries.

She has advised companies on the adoption of appropriate accounting policies and practices and was involved in Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards implementation projects and various accounting advisory services.

She currently provides technical support to the Audit and Assurance Service line.

Choo Yung Siong, Dennis
Senior Manager, Assurance
Deloitte Malaysia

Dennis has over 7 years of audit and consulting experience in various Big four firms and various industries including manufacturing and construction industries. He has extensive experience in leading project management office for a few big implementation engagements in the past.

Dennis has conducted trainings and workshops on IFRS/ MFRS for various industries such as properties developer, automotive, construction, logistics and etc.

He has also advised companies on the adoption of appropriate accounting policies and practices and was involved in Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards implementation projects and various accounting advisory services.
