In lieu of the growing importance of data in our daily business decision-making, our observations in dealing with FSIs is that there are data quality concerns (such as repetitive data and lack of data governance) which peak comparatively to other observations. Most FSIs in Malaysia suffer from the absence of a clear data governance framework, detailing the roles and responsibilities of Data Owners, Stewards and Users.

Along with the introduction of the concept of BCBS 239 that seeks to address effective risk data aggregation and risk reporting, this has indicated that data governance has come to prominence for FSIs.

Justin is the Financial Services Risk Advisory Leader with Deloitte Malaysia and Indochina countries (i.e. Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos).

Over the past years, he has worked with more than 40 financial services institutions in the regions, supporting Board and C-suites in their transformation programmes, focusing on capital, risk and compliance matters, as well as BCBS 239 audit reviews.

Anand Ramamoorthy
Head of Data Governance and Data Security APJ,
Informatica

Anand Ramamoorthy is the Director and Head of Data Governance and Data Security business for Informatica Corporation in the Asia Pacific Japan region (APJ), based out of Melbourne, Australia.

Anand has over 20 years of experience in data management and data governance with a broad exposure working for MNCs, consultancies and software vendors in multiple geographies and industries. During this time, he has held various consulting, project management and leadership positions across various industries.
