Deloitte Tax Challenge 2023
Overview
- The Deloitte Tax Challenge is open to all undergraduates in Malaysia, as well as those pursuing professional qualifications.
- The challenge is divided into two categories – Team and Individual. Challengers can choose to take part in both categories simultaneously.
- For the Team category, each team is required to consist of four (4) members. Team members can be from different faculties and different universities/colleges.
- Registration closes on 17 September 2023. Please find the Challenge Timeline below for your reference.
Challenge Timeline
Pre-challenge – 18 September 2023
- The Pre-challenge will begin on Monday, 18 September 2023 (two days before the Assessment Stage) from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. for both Individual and Team categories.
- The link to access the Pre-challenge questions will be provided via e-mail to allow successful registrants to access the questions.
- The Pre-challenge consists of 20 online multiple-choice questions (a mixture of 16 tax questions and 4 non-tax questions).
- For the Team category, please assign only one (1) team representative (team leader) to complete the Pre-challenge. Please complete the assessment using only one (1) compatible device. A desktop or laptop computer is recommended for the best performance.
- Challengers are given 30 minutes to complete the assessment from their first login.
- The Pre-challenge is meant for simulation purposes and no marks will be awarded. Challengers are advised to provide feedback and report any issues faced on the online test platform after the trial test by reaching out to us at mydtc@deloitte.com.
Assessment Stage – 20 September 2023
- The online test will begin on Wednesday, 20 September 2023 from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. for both Individual and Team categories.
- Challengers from both Individual and Team categories will be tested on 40 online multiple-choice questions (a mixture of 34 tax questions and 6 non-tax questions).
- The link to access the assessment will be released to the Challengers via e-mail on 20 September 2023.
- For Team category, please assign only one (1) team representative (team leader) to complete the challenge. Please complete the assessment using only one (1) compatible device. A desktop or laptop computer is recommended for the best performance.
- Challengers are advised to complete the assessment as soon as possible.
- Challengers are given 60 minutes to complete the online test from their first login.
- Results will be announced on our Facebook page and website.
NOTE: Challengers must attempt all the questions (strictly do not skip any) to be entitled for the e-certificate and qualify for the Semi-finals. Please attempt the assessment with a stable internet connection.
Semi-finals – 7 October 2023
- The questions will be released to the semi-finalists on Saturday, 7 October 2023 at 9.00 a.m. for Individual category or 2.00 p.m. for Team category via e-mail.
- Semi-finalists are required to present their solution to the questions via a video clip uploaded on YouTube latest by 1.00 p.m. or 6.00 p.m. for Individual and Team category respectively. Visibility of the video presentation must be set to unlisted.
- Video clip’s visual and audio quality must be clear where video editing/subtitles are not required. No extra marks will be awarded.
- Late submission will not be entertained.
- Normal examination rules apply. All semi-finalists are not allowed to discuss or share materials with other participants/third parties.
- Results will be announced on our Facebook page and website.
Grand Finals and Prize Giving Ceremony – 21 November 2023
- A preparatory workshop will be provided to the finalists on 9 November 2023 to prepare them for the Grand Finals.
- The Grand Finals will be held on 21 November 2023.
- The finalists will be given a real-life scenario business challenge to work on, upon reaching the Grand Finals.
- Finalists will be given 80 minutes to prepare for the written assessment (report) and live presentation. Finalists are required to present their solutions to a panel of judges within the 10 minutes (Individual Category) or within the 15 minutes (Team Category) time limit.
- The written assessment will carry a weightage of 30% while the oral presentation will carry a weightage of 70% in the final score.
- Normal examination rules apply. All finalists are not allowed to discuss or share materials with other participants/third parties.
- Results will be announced on our Facebook page and website.

Note: Best presenters from the Team category will form a new team to represent Malaysia in the Deloitte Southeast Asia Tax Challenge 2024.
