Celebrating our people – Melissa Delgado

Deloitte SEA has many amazing people and as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary this year, we want to salute our longest serving partners. Here we spotlight Audit & Assurance Partner, Melissa Delgado, who has been with Deloitte Philippines for 21 years!

1. When did you first join Deloitte and what was your role?

I joined Deloitte Philippines in June 1999 as an Audit Senior.

2. What do you enjoy most about working at Deloitte?

I take pride in our Deloitte brand, which has been built on our leaders’ resilience and integrity in the face of challenging times throughout our 175-year history.

3. What is the most important lesson that you have learnt at Deloitte?

I have learnt that we are in the business of trust, not only between our clients and our community, but more importantly trust between our people. Our local Founding Partners always tell us that working at Deloitte means that our middle name is INTEGRITY.

4. What is your biggest achievement to date?

The biggest achievement to date is being admitted to the partnership in 2006, and having to take on various roles in Audit, Learning, Clients & Markets and Mobility Programs, while braving the challenges of raising my own family. In addition, another achievement is being one of the named partners when Deloitte Philippines changed its name to Manabat Delgado Amper & Co. in 2007.

5. Please share a little about your family and you like to do in your free time?

I got married to a medical doctor in 1993, and am blessed with three wonderful children (aged 20, 15 and 10). I spend my free time traveling with my family, both locally and internationally. On ordinary weekends, I simply love hanging out with my children in the house or in the village, mostly with my youngest son, playing fun activities (e.g. boxing, biking, swimming or football) or dining out with them.

6. What advice would you give to our new hires on how to succeed in their careers as well as personal lives?

Being successful in both your career and personal lives is not an easy feat, but it is truly possible. Personally, I believe RESILIENCE is the key. In times of insurmountable challenges, reset, refocus, readjust or restart as many times as you need to. For a career woman with a growing family, it can be tiring but learn to rest, not quit!

Celebrate small victories and always find reasons to be grateful and move forward. A career with Deloitte is taxing but it surely is rewarding, because you know that you are part of a greater cause - which is building a legacy that will benefit future generations. As Deloitte charts its course to another 175 years, I dare you to prove yourself worthy of the Deloitte brand.

7. What would you like to wish Deloitte as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary?

I wish Deloitte another meaningful 175 years ahead as we continue to navigate the future while braving this pandemic in our history.
