Deloitte Southeast Asia Sports Business Practice
Deloitte Southeast Asia launches its sports business practice to help sports businesses in the region go for gold.
Singapore, 31 October 2016 – Deloitte Southeast Asia has officially launched its sports business practice to provide professional services that are specially tailored to the business of sports.
Globally, Deloitte is a recognised leader in the sports business sector, with a dedicated team providing professional services to some of the world’s largest sports teams, leagues and associations. The Deloitte Southeast Asia sports business practice is an extension of the Deloitte Sports Business Group into the region.
In recent years, the sports scene in Southeast Asia has been burgeoning, particularly with governments in the region committing to developing elite sports in their respective countries and with many world-class events now being held in the region.
“The region is growing its sports scene, and we see this in their increased focus on developing their athletes to compete at elite level in world games. Many major sporting associations are also beginning to venture into Southeast Asia as part of their tour, seeing the potential gain from the emerging pool of affluent spectators, and the countries’ openness to cater state-of-the-art facilities and venues to host these events,” said Mr James Walton, Sports Business Group Leader, Deloitte Southeast Asia.
“With the increase in activity, sports businesses are starting to recognise the potential the region has to offer, and need help to come up with a game plan to make their play in this lucrative sporting arena.”
The Deloitte team helps sports businesses through a suite of services that includes audit, tax, financial advisory, risk advisory and consulting services through a customised sports lens. Deloitte also offers sports-specific advisory such as strategy review and redevelopment, governance and organisation design, and economic impact studies.
With these capabilities, the Deloitte sports business team in Southeast Asia is already supporting a number of sports associations in the region. A notable project is with Sport Singapore. Announced publicly earlier this year, the Deloitte team is helping the Singapore Sports Institute in an exercise to optimise the use of their sports medicine centre.
“Deloitte in Southeast Asia is a strong supporter of sports in the region, and this support stems from shared values of integrity, passion, and commitment to one another. Apart from having been the official professional services partner of the Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore in 2010, and also the 2015 Southeast Asian Games and ASEAN Para Games, we are also partners with sports bodies and associations such as Sport Singapore and Netball Singapore to help develop the local sports community,” said Mr Philip Yuen, Chief Executive Officer, Deloitte Southeast Asia.
“Bringing our sports business services into our Southeast Asia firm is a natural progression of our support for sports. We want to offer what we do best to help build up sports in the region, and foster, among the different communities, good qualities and values synonymous with sports such as excellence, resilience and determination.”
