E-commerce in Turkey 2015
Informatics Industry Association’s (TÜBİSAD) “E-commerce in Turkey 2015 Market Size” report, conducted in collaboration with Deloitte, analyzes Turkey’s e-commerce market.
The study, which was conducted for the third time this year, draws on quantitative data such as number of visits, average basket sizes and sales numbers, as well as qualitative data driven by the interviews made with sector and association representatives.
According to the report, compared to last year the sector has grown by 31% reaching to a total size of 24.7 billion TL. The fastest growing sub-sectors were travel and leisure and online retail sectors.
13.3 billion TL of the e-commerce sector has come from the retail sub-sector. When the share of online retail in overall retail sector (2%) is analyzed, the future prospects are optimistic. Even though Turkey falls behind the developed countries (7.1%) and developing countries (5.1%), the increase in penetration of Internet and broadband and its positive impact on online and mobile shopping signals the growth potential of the sector.
