Marta - It takes two to tango

Competitive tango dancer Marta talks about flexibility, her love of dance, and how her biggest achievement so far was actually someone else’s.

How did you join Deloitte?

I used to work in Finance Controlling for a large Swiss Bank but wanted to have more variety in my role. My friend, who was working at Monitor Deloitte, recommended that I apply for Consulting in Deloitte.

What are you responsible for in your role?

Currently I am working as a Chief of Staff to our EMEA SAP Leader - supporting her in numerous initiatives to develop SAP business that will fulfil the ambitious goal of trebling our revenue and becoming the SAP leader within three years. The role involves supporting Country leads, Capability leads, supporting the organisation of communities and events, organising funding, managing the networks, and serving as gate-keeper to the EMEA SAP Leader.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

I work from home whenever I need to, and have never had issues with it. I have requested a Time Out, but ended up switching to unpaid leave. Both options were supported by my Op Unit lead. I am planning to take Time Out next year.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Most memorable was being part of the faculty at the Junior Talent Induction Programme. I had the chance to play a big role in an Analyst’s induction to Deloitte, being their first Project Manager and Coach. I loved being involved in this small portion of their lives, and supporting them through the very difficult “christening by fire” of doing their first project. I loved celebrating their success after the final presentation, and working together with another faculty. It was the most intense week of my life but also the most rewarding one.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am absolutely crazy about Argentine tango. I participate in numerous events throughout Europe over weekends and I competed in UK Championships two years ago. I also learn Spanish (so I can understand tango music better) and am planning a six-week-long trip to Buenos Aires. I try to be very active too, and whenever I have spare time I go to fitness classes.
