Sophie Moffat – Six weeks of opportunity has been saved
Our Summer Vacation Scheme gave Sophie more than enough time to show her skills and secure a graduate position as an Analyst in our Tax team.
What did the Summer Vacation Scheme involve?
I was given the opportunity to get involved assisting with the preparation of personal tax calculations, drafting correspondence to clients and producing research reports. I also had the chance to prepare a number of individual tax returns and finalise meeting minutes.
What was life like as an intern?
To make the most out of the six weeks, no two days are the same. I was able to spend time in both the Mobility and Reward departments of Global Employer Services. It was great being exposed to such a diverse range of tasks every day. I had lots of meetings with colleagues, explaining projects or typical tasks, like compensation manipulation. This allowed me to involve myself in a piece of work from the preparation right through to completion.
What was your most memorable moment?
Having some of my research work published. During my short time in the office I was given the responsibility of gathering intel on the structure and content of a number of Director Remuneration Reports for AIM 100 companies. Ultimately, the research that I contributed to was then published.
What was the best part of your role?
I really enjoyed the immediate involvement in projects and client work. I didn’t expect to be so involved with the level of work that was entrusted to me. Finding the ability to rise to these challenging tasks every day was something I particularly enjoyed.

Where were you mainly based during the programme?
In order to get the most out of the six-week programme, interns are expected to work from the office. This really helped me and the other interns gain as much exposure as possible.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy travelling, socialising with friends and learning languages too. Joining the Deloitte netball team has been great fun too.
