Beware of Recruitment Scams Targeting Jobseekers

We have recently been made aware that some people have been targeted by scammers pretending to be from Deloitte offering potential jobs.

Employment scammers often pose as legitimate recruiters, employers, recruitment consultants or job placement firms, advertising false job opportunities through email, text messages and WhatsApp messages. They aim to cheat jobseekers out of money or to steal personal information.

If you are offered an interview or a role with Deloitte after application, this will be communicated with you through email, via an official email address ending in @deloitte.co.uk. You will never be asked for payments of any kind during the process, even if you are applying from overseas.

Deloitte uses its official social media pages to share stories about our people and update followers on opportunities. However, although we respond to comments and questions about the general processes through these channels, we never issue job offers or ask candidates for personal information. We also never communicate with candidates via Whatsapp at any point during the recruitment process. There are some instances where a text message is sent, but this will only be when a candidate is going through a Deloitte recruitment process, and we won’t ask for personal information or data via text message. To help you look out for potential recruitment scams, here are some common signs:

1. Too Good to be True Offers: If a job offer seems too good to be true - offering high pay for little work, no experience necessary, etc - it often is.
2. Unprofessional Communication: scammers may use personal rather than business email addresses and their messages may be filled with poor grammar and spelling errors. The email brochures and documents may appear unprofessional and inconsistent, while email addresses won’t be official and may contain errors. They may also not have the look and feel consistent with our corporate website.
3. Upfront Payment Requests: Legitimate employers will never ask for money upfront. Scammers may ask for fees for background checks, job training, or work-at-home supplies.
4. Requests for Personal Information: Be wary if you are asked for sensitive personal information, especially early in the job process and without a clear need for it. Fraudulent links or contractual documents may require the provision of sensitive personal data or copy documents (e.g., government issued numbers or identity documents, passports or passport numbers, bank account statements or numbers, parent’s data) that may be used for identity fraud. Do not provide or send any of these documents or data. Please note we will never ask for photographs at any stage of the recruitment process.
5. Rushed Hiring Process: If you're offered a job without an interview or if the hiring process seems unusually quick, it could be a scam.
6. Selling items: Scammers want to extract money from you. We will never offer candidates the chance to buy new or used items such as Deloitte merchandise, phones or laptops.
   

To protect yourself from employment scams:

• Research: Research the company and the individuals involved. Check if the company has a physical address and check the email addresses or phone numbers given to you. You can find our official Deloitte recruitment pages here. We advise you to check that the page details and website addresses match if you have any concerns.

• Protect Personal Information: Never share sensitive personal information until you have confirmed the legitimacy of the company and have a formal job offer.

• Contact Directly: If you're unsure, make direct contact with the company using official contact details from their website. Be careful not to use any contact details provided in the suspicious job advertisement or email.

• Trust Your Instincts: If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Listen to your gut feeling.
