Deloitte has announced the appointment of 29 new partners following the completion of a transaction that sees the team from Kemp Little, a leading technology and digital media law firm, become part of Deloitte Legal.

In total 114 employees from Kemp Little join Deloitte Legal, with more than 80 lawyers who bring a wide range of legal services expertise in commercial technology, corporate, employment, data protection, disputes, IP and financial regulation across a range of sectors including financial services, telecoms, and media and digital solutions.

Michael Castle, managing partner for Deloitte Legal in the UK, commented: “This transaction is transformative for Deloitte Legal. Overnight, we have doubled our lawyer headcount in the UK but, more importantly, the depth of talent in the Kemp Little team and the quality of their innovative legal tech products allow us to provide clients with an even broader and deeper range of legal expertise to complement existing services in advisory, technology, consultancy and managed services. We are now offering truly end-to-end professional and legal services to our clients.”

Andrew Joint, partner and head of legal advisory at Deloitte Legal, added: “Today is a landmark moment in Kemp Little’s history. We are joining a firm that not only shares our principles in creating unique and exciting legal service offerings for the market, but it will also allow our talented legal experts to flourish and benefit from the global scale of the Deloitte network.

“The transition and integration planning have been a tremendous success, despite the obvious challenges of being conducted virtually. We are hitting the ground running and together, as Deloitte Legal, will continue to help our clients realise their legal potential.”

Award-winning legal tech products

The completed transaction also sees the successful transfer of Kemp Little’s award-winning legal tech products to supplement Deloitte Legal’s existing technology focus. This includes Dupe Killer, an IP protection tool that uses cutting edge artificial intelligence (AI) to identify design infringements, and Four Corners Intelligence, a contract analysis system that provides detailed and client-specific legal opinions readily accessible to any business user about any aspect of a book of contracts.

Bruce Braude, CTO at Deloitte Legal, commented: “Technology is reinventing the way legal work is being delivered and it underpins everything that we do. This can include identifying duplicate design infringement through AI or freeing up lawyers’ time by creating self-service contract reporting and analysis tools using natural language processing technology. These are just two excellent examples of forward-looking legal tech products that not only solve real world problems but immediately transform the way legal services are delivered. We want to do everything we can to help our people and our clients harness the considerable benefits created by advancements in legal technology.”

Deloitte Legal now has more than 370 people in the UK, with 170 lawyers delivering technology-enabled legal solutions and legal advisory in areas such as employment, litigation, corporate, commercial, IP and technology, regulatory compliance and immigration. Last year, Deloitte Legal expanded its Legal Managed Services and Legal Management Consulting businesses, following the launch of Deloitte Legal Ventures.

Globally, Deloitte Legal currently has c.2,500 professionals operating in more than 80 countries.
