The Kingdom of Bahrain have launched a new service for renewing the residence and work permits for expatriates who are outside the country

10 September 2023 - The Ministry of Interior for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs (NPRA), in coordination with the Labour Market Regularly Authority (LMRA) in the Kingdom of Bahrain have launched a new service for renewing the residence and work permits for expatriates who are outside the country. This service can be availed by expatriates working in the commercial and government sectors, registered labourers, and domestic workers. Whilst the residence permit renewals can be processed via the National Portal of Bahrain, work permits can be renewed via the Expatriate Management System or official LMRA channels.

The new online service allows employers to renew their employees' residence and work permits whilst outside the Kingdom, prior to the expiry date. Employers will also be able to renew the work permit through the Expatriate Management System by selecting the duration of the work permit and completing the payment process, in addition to completing the renewal process and paying the fees applicable by visiting one of the banks licensed by the LMRA.

Deloitte’s view

The introduction of the new online service to renew residence and work permits is a positive step in the continued development of the Kingdom's immigration system and aims to improve investment and enhance the services provided to employers of expatriate workers.

The new service also streamlines the process for expatriates, who can now renew their residence and work permits from outside the Kingdom.

We will monitor any further developments and keep you updated.
