Exemptions for Certain Categories of Bangladeshi Nationals in Oman

23 July 2024 - The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Dhaka has recently announced an exemption for specific categories of Bangladeshi nationals from the visa ban implemented in October 2023. The categories that are now exempt from the ban include family visas, visitation visas for Bangladeshi citizens residing in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and professionals such as physicians, engineers, nurses, teachers, accountants, and investors. The exemption also extends to all types of official visas and high-income tourists.

The Embassy will now accept and process applications from individuals falling under these categories. The processing time for these applications will range from one to four weeks, depending on the specifics of each application. All applications must be accompanied by duly attested documentation to verify the applicant's eligibility for the requested visa.

The Embassy has also reassured that efforts are underway to lift the work visa ban as soon as possible. It has emphasized that the ban is purely technical and apolitical, resulting from a regular review of the foreign labor market in Oman.

Deloitte’s view

This development is a positive step towards easing travel restrictions for certain categories of Bangladeshi nationals. This move is expected to strengthen the bilateral relations between Oman and Bangladesh, which have been growing and expanding in various fields under the leadership of both governments.

However, it is important for individuals and businesses to understand the specifics of these exemptions and ensure they have the necessary documentation in place when applying for a visa. Deloitte can provide guidance and support in navigating these changes and ensuring compliance with the new regulations.

We also anticipate further updates regarding the work visa ban and will keep our clients informed of any developments.
