Diversity and Inclusion with Amol Pahuja

Inclusion Heroes

What does inclusion mean to you?

Inclusion to me means having every voice, however faint it may be, feel heard. Establishing a sense of belonging is a critical part of inclusion that can only be done if everyone feels heard and seen. This helps bring the best out of everyone with a unique perspective of their own.

How is Deloitte helping you build your career?

I have a very high appreciation for the Coach-coachee program at Deloitte. The diversity at Deloitte, not just in professional backgrounds, but also in culture is astounding. By having an inclusive mindset, the Coaches are able to help their coachees grow in their own ways.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned during your time at Deloitte?

The most important learned lesson was the power of network and collaboration. Being part of a global network, our Irish firm has access to an ever-growing knowledge base that only exists because of excellent collaboration. Additionally, having experts from different industries within the network ensures always receiving the support needed when a challenge approaches.

Establishing a sense of belonging is a critical part of inclusion that can only be done if everyone feels heard and seen.

How have you championed inclusion at Deloitte?

I recently helped organise a firm-wide event to celebrate Diwali at the Deloitte office. This was an excellent opportunity to champion inclusion as we received participation from not just from the Indian community, but across other groups too.

How did it feel to see so many colleagues come to the Diwali event you organised?

It was fantastic to see such a huge turnout at the event. Diwali is a huge festival in India, and it was elating to see participation by colleagues from all backgrounds. The event was reflective of how strongly Deloitte encourages celebrations from diverse cultures and the openness with which everyone at the firm accepts this diversity.

What is one piece of advice you know now you would share with yourself when you started at Deloitte?

One piece of advice I can share is if you have an initiative in mind you feel could bring about a positive impact, do not hesitate to go for it. In my experience, the culture at Deloitte is highly accommodating and you will receive support in one form or another. So, take the step forward, because, in the end, it is about making the ‘Impact that matters’.

Can you give us five words to describe inclusion?

Connection, Open-mindedness, Curiosity, Collaboration, and Bonding.
