Wellbeing Heroes with Floyd Jackson

Introduction:

My name is Floyd Jackson, and I’m a Manager on the Artificial Intelligence and Data Team. I’m an amateur musician and full-time gamer, with a background in astrophysics.

What does wellbeing mean to you?

To me, wellbeing is the ability to get up in the morning and face the day with a meaningful smile and the energy to enjoy the day.

What challenges do you face when trying to be prioritise your wellbeing (lack of time etc.)

Occasionally, my energy reserves can be spent on activities outside of looking after myself. Fortunately, I’ve learned to make more time for my wellbeing.

What steps do you take to feel well and prioritise your mental health in your everyday life?

I do my best to get some cardio and resistance exercise in 4-5 times a week. I also play table-top games with friends at least twice a week, which is a real refresher for the mind.

To me, wellbeing is the ability to get up in the morning and face the day with meaningful smile and the energy to enjoy the day.

What advice would you give to someone who is trying to look after their mental health/wellbeing?

I would advise anybody trying to look after their mental health to take some time out of their day to reflect on how things are going for them. If things are going well, all the better. If things aren’t look so good, they should reflect on how things could potentially improve. And talking to someone can be a real help (I’ve been there!)

Do you think Deloitte as a firm helps people to prioritise their wellbeing?

I certainly do! Initiatives like the Mental Health Network, Inclusion Committee, and Gender Balance Committee, to name a few, are amazing resources that are willing and able to lean in to when needed. And apart from the various networks, Deloitte offers so much more for wellbeing support like the Inclusion Passport.

If you could recommend one step that everyone should take to look after themselves and their mental health, what would it be?

I would recommend trying to spend a few minutes outside every day. I know getting some fresh air into the lungs does me the world of good!
