Energy management passes the point of no return

The findings of the Deloitte Resources 2015 Study suggest that a tipping point in energy management has been passed: thoughtful deliberate energy consumption has permeated the business psyche, and companies, by and large, now consider energy management to be an essential aspect of corporate strategy.

The 2015 Study aims to answer questions such as:

  • What actions are US businesses and consumers taking and expecting to take to manage their energy usage?
  • What do they know about the energy marketplace?
  • What motivates them to adopt new practices and invest in new technologies?
  • How mature are their approaches to managing energy efficiency?

American consumers are starting to feel better about the economy and growing supply of domestic energy resources, but they remain committed to reducing their electricity consumption, according to the Deloitte Resources 2015 Study. The survey of more than 1,500 household decision makers finds consumers have largely focused on basic tactics to cut their energy use and are not following through on their intentions to invest in more capital-intensive measures such as rooftop solar panels or smart energy apps. Nonetheless, their interest in more advanced energy management tactics persists, creating opportunities for electricity providers who can make the right offer.

About the Resources Study

The Study reflects our commitment to provide thoughtful views on significant emerging trends and developments. It does this by seeking to uncover the actions that businesses, as well as consumers, are taking to manage their energy usage and to understand what motivates them to adopt new practices and invest in new technologies. The Study also explores corporate commitment to energy management in terms of goals and capital investment.

Each year the Study captures two perspectives:

  • The business portion is based on hundreds of online interviews with business decision makers
  • The consumer portion is based on hundreds of demographically balanced online consumer interviews
