Virtual Hugs initiative tackles loneliness in residential care homes and hospitals
Deloitte, Close the Gap, and the VUB donate tablets and smartphones to the elderly community and hospital patients during the corona crisis.
By connecting elderly people and hospital patients to their family and friends, Virtual Hugs aims to tackle loneliness and isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current ban on visits during the corona crisis has deprived many people of staying connected with the outside world, and residential care homes and hospitals often do not have the resources to help residents connect virtually.
By connecting these people to their family and friends, Virtual Hugs aims to tackle loneliness and isolation during the corona crisis. Therefore, we are collecting tablets and smartphones to give the possibility to residents to make video calls with their loved ones. In addition to the technological equipment, we’re also collecting donations to purchase devices via our digital platform www.virtualhugs.be. These tablets and smartphones will be distributed across residential care centres and hospitals that have expressed a need.
