Thursday, 30 September 2021 | 09:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

Unforeseen disruptions can occur suddenly, and at all levels of the European Commission. The coronavirus crisis has underlined the need for the European Union (EU) to devote greater efforts to anticipatory governance, and to attempt to strengthen its resilience in the face of risks from both foreseeable and unforeseeable events. Covid-19 has exposed weaknesses and highlighted the added value of a coordinated EU crisis management response. The pandemic has demonstrated that there is a need for the EU to improve its capacity to respond to crises and build resilience to future shocks.

In this cockpit session, we will explore the meaning of resilience and how to develop the capabilities to plan and respond to disruptions to the organisation. We will showcase how we’ve already helped European agencies draft and implement their business continuity programme.

DL2210 - DESTINATION: Working side by side with robots – Robotic Process Automation

Thursday, 22 October 2020 | 9:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

Robotic Process Automation (RPA), part of the Robotic and Intelligent Automation toolset, is a disruptive technology that allows organizations to automate business processes in a controlled, flexible and scalable way. A robot in the RPA context is a software application that is able to interact with applications and data sources through front-end interfaces and in the existing IT landscape, as a human user would do.

Having to focus on what can be mundane and repetitive business processes may lead to reduced employee engagement and the workforce acting like robots, not putting their human skills and expertise to their best use. RPA aims to take the robot out of the human and let humans be humans again, by replacing repetitive tasks with value added activities. Especially in these COVID times, forward looking and connection with the team becomes even more important, while still managing to process the increased workload it can bring.

In this session, we want to provide you with an insight into Robotic and Intelligent Automation, with a specific zoom on RPA and to show you how this can be applied to your business. We’ll provide an overview of the technology as well as showcase some of the work we’ve been doing in the Ireland Public Sector with Philip McGrath (Public Service Innovation Policy Lead) as a guest speaker.

DL0312 - DESTINATION: What does Africa think? - Discussing the pathway towards the emergence of an African business model with African CEOs

Thursday, 3 December 2020 | 09:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

What are the determinants of resilience and success in Africa? What are the critical success factors on the continent and what is behind the success and growth of major national, regional and pan-African stakeholders in sectors such as retail, industry and financial services?

Our second and latest Africa CEO Survey came at an unusual time, shaped by a year of political transition in several countries and the unprecedented health crisis we continue to face. Like in the past, we gathered opinions and feedback from African CEOs with a wide range of geographic and professional backgrounds in order to form the most accurate picture of the diverse realities and conditions present in Africa today. We focused on six areas which we feel encompass all of the issues, opportunities and challenges African private sector stakeholders face, i.e., strategy, governance, financing, innovation, impact and talent.

Join us on this virtual flight to explore and debate the findings of our work and the features of the “African business model” which our recent survey broadly outlines.

process for employees and customers of PES. Join us on a virtual flight with
our experts from Deloitte Canada and Deloitte Denmark to learn more about two examples, illustrating the potential of technology to facilitate labour market
transitions at national and EU level. Our Canadian colleagues are going to
introduce the elements of an innovative matching platform, while our Danish

DL2801 - DESTINATION: International data transfers – What is the issue? Why should we care?

Thursday, 28 January 2021 | 09:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

Managing efficiently cross-border data transfers has become a hot topic of the “business transformation” agenda for the majority of international organisations today. The transfer of data outside of the EU territory is regarded by businesses as a “must have” in view of the plenty of advantages that result from the use of centralised and global on-line tools used for optimising data management and storage. We live in a globalised world and EU-based organisations are moving data overseas as a consequence. The Covid-19 pandemic has even accentuated this trend; tele-working, social media and on-line shops make even more urgent the need to share more data and more intensively, through virtual cross-border networks.

In tandem, regulatory expectations about whether and how much data can move outside of the EU territory have evolved fast. Recently, the European Data Protection Board (EDPS) issued a new strategy regarding how EU institutions should organise cross-border data transfers. In parallel, legal instruments that were up to now regarded as “adequate” to secure data transfers outside of the EEA have been challenged [and brought to invalidation (Privacy Shield) or weakened (Standard Contractual Clauses)].

Our virtual flight will provide updates on the latest EU policy and regulatory developments on the topic of international data transfers, explaining why those are (also) relevant to the EU institutions. Through a “helicopter” view over the EDPS strategy, the session will discuss how translating the “to do’s” of the strategy into a practical roadmap that will help your institution control better data flows and mitigate potential regulatory and business risks. Thirdly, leveraging on examples from the private sector, Deloitte will propose the key elements on how designing a ‘Transfer Risk Assessment’ approach that can serve as a compass for prioritizing data transfers and help (you) build an effective “business plan” on the topic.

How Europe can pave the way to shape the mobility of the future? Deloitte has been working on the next revolution in mobility: mobility as a service (MaaS). Join us in this virtual flight to explore how Mobility as a service can support to deliver.

DL1102 - DESTINATION: The future of cities - Urban Future with a Purpose

Thursday, 11 February 2021 | 09:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

They can offer projects that meet our European goals of the green and digital transition. Cities must contribute. Because the city is where all the challenges are coming together”.

Cities will pave the way to climate neutrality and the European Green Deal will remain at its core. It is hard to imagine how the EU is going to become carbon neutral: how do we envision the future of cities by 2030? How innovation can drive urban resilience, sustainability, and citizen well-being? In the pandemic era, ensuring a healthy, safe, and prosperous future for cities has been a burning imperative not only as municipalities’ leaders but also as citizens, as family members or as business people. We all live together and share similar concerns.

Join us in this virtual flight to learn more about the recently innovative studies that Deloitte is working on.

DL2406 - DESTINATION: Future beyond Covid: The Voice of the European Workforce

Thursday, 24 June 2021 | 09:00 - 10:00 (CEST)

In Europe and around the world, the labour market was already facing disruptive changes before 2020. A shrinking workforce, the impact of digitalisation and automation, and shifts in skills needed were already at the centre of European policymakers’ attention. The COVID-19 pandemic led to faster adaptation to new ways of working and propelled existing trends forward. But what does this mean for European policymakers? We believe that better understanding the views of the European workforce is a key enabler of sustainable policy-making and a precondition for the effective implementation of ambitious actions, such as the one set out in the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan.

Seeking answers to important questions, Deloitte’s European Workforce Survey 2020 gathered the attitudes, concerns, and policy preferences of over 10,000 employees in order to bridge the gap between policymakers and EU citizens. Embark with us on a journey to explore and to discuss the findings of our workforce research!

In an interactive discussion, we will address key questions and shed light on differences across workforce groups: Are Europeans positive or negative about their professional future? What work-related long-lasting changes do they expect? What support from policymakers would they prefer?

We will then open the floor for discussion around challenges and opportunities for policymakers facing this unprecedented shift in the world of work.
