For over 65 years, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been protecting and assisting people who have been forced to flee. There are currently 59.5 million forcibly displaced people in the world.

UNHCR employs over 9,700 staff operating in 126 countries and specialising in a wide range of disciplines, including legal protection, administration, community services, public affairs and health. When emergencies strike, effective humanitarian leadership is critical in saving lives. That was the driving motivation behind strengthening leadership for middle and top management at UNHCR.

Since 2014, Deloitte has been supporting UNHCR in improving its capabilities around workforce planning, leadership development and succession management. In the first phase, Deloitte helped UNHCR to perform advanced workforce analytics to better understand the size and the scope of the leadership challenge and therefore focus on most urgent leader segments to be addressed. At late phase, Deloitte supported the development of innovative strategies and frameworks to better anticipate workforce supply and demand and address leadership development needs and priorities accordingly.
