BRICS Women Innovation Contest
At the BRICS Summit on November 17, 2020, Chinese President proposed
“the holding of the BRICS women’s innovation contest”, which received support
from BRICS leaders. In 2021, the BRICS Women Innovation Contest (hereafter
referred to as the Contest), jointly organized by the Chinese Chapter, WBA, and
co-sponsored by the Indian, Russian, Brazilian, and South African Chapters,
WBA, hits the ground. The registration starts on March 25th, and an
awards ceremony will be held in the end of July.
1. Objectives
From July 3 to 4, 2017, the First International SCO and BRICS Women’s Forum was held in Novosibirsk, Russia. Within the framework of the Forum, BRICS Public-Private Dialogue "Women and the Economy" took place. As a result of the Dialogue, an initiative to establish the BRICS Women's Business Alliance (WBA) was proposed by the Russian business community, later it was supported by all BRICS nations. The WBA aims to enhance the role of women in economic growth and promote women's economic empowerment in all nations. The Inaugural meeting of the WBA was held through videoconference within Russia`s Presidency in BRICS on July 20, 2020. At the meeting, members of Chinese Chapter, in combination with their own business practices, launched several initiatives to promote women's entrepreneurship in the BRICS nations, stimulating and releasing women's business potential.
The BRICS Women Business Alliance (WBA) was officially launched at the BRICS Summit in November 2020.
2. Selection Criteria
- Spirit of women: women entrepreneurs who are diligent, passionate, hardworking and creative, etc., and headquartered in the BRICS countries.
- Social responsibility: attaching importance to social responsibility, taking comprehensive social impact as the development strategy, and inspiring.
- Unique technology and business model: equipped with unique technology and business model.
- Prospects on industry and market: with forward-looking strategic thinking, clear goals, continued investment in talent development, and a good market prospect within industries.
3. Registration Information
Registration Period: 25 March - 31 May, 2021
Applicants should provide: basic information of the candidate and the enterprise, the enterprise’s profile, the candidate’s profile and achievement, information of the contact person and other related information.

4. Programme, Date & Venue
The Contest mainly consists of three major stages, including Registration, Evaluation and Scoring and Awards Ceremony, which will last four months from March to July 2021.
The timeline of the Contest is as follows:
Stage 1- Registration (25 Mar - 31 May 2021): Participants can apply for the Contest through online registration or recommended by WBA national chapters.
Stage 2- Evaluation and Scoring (1 June - 30 June 2021): The jury will evaluate and score the candidates according to the selection criteria, and then propose a list of winners.
Stage 3- Awards Ceremony (end of July 2021): Awards Ceremony will be held in the end of July, 2021, Beijing.
5. Award Setting and Benefits
The Contest will offer an Award of Mulan to brilliant women entrepreneurs selected from each BRCIS country in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their fields and their promotion of social welfare and economic development. And also, the rest of the candidates will receive a Special Recognition Award.
The winners will be included in the White Paper on the BRICS Women Innovation Contest, widely publicized on the WBA platform and social media, and can obtain an opportunity to exchange and cooperate with members of WBA.
