Deloitte Legal supports E.ON in the development of a Legal Matter Management System

Supported by the Deloitte Legal Management Consulting team led by Klaus Gresbrand (Partner, Düsseldorf) and Dmitri Geidel (Associate, Berlin), a team of employees from various legal and IT departments of the E.ON Group (lead: Bettina Maeding, Stefan Grassee and Edgar Boger) developed the new legal matter management system “E.ON Legal Matters”.

Deloitte Legal supported the international E.ON project team in the design of the system both in terms of content and with its experience in managing legal technology projects: The use of agile working methodologies and tools such as Microsoft Azure DevOps contributed significantly to facilitating the development and led to an efficient process from ideation to go-live.

The E.ON Group is one of Europe’s largest operators of energy networks and energy infrastructure, as well as a provider of innovative customer solutions for more than 50 million customers. E.ON has a total of 72,000 employees in 15 countries. The target group of the Legal Matters solution comprises more than 200 employees in the legal departments of the group companies. The complexity and diversity of the tasks performed by the in-house legal teams require a globally deployable, flexible Legal Matter Management system. The challenges in developing this system were therefore manifold: On the one hand, it had to enable seamless collaboration both in the legal departments and with external parties, but at the same time it had to meet the data security requirements for legal matters. Furthermore, the tool had to provide comprehensive reporting functionalities and enable an effective way to store e-mails. The E.ON project team was able to meet these requirements with the support of Deloitte Legal through a system developed in-house from Microsoft components. This created a tool that maps the entire legal advisory process, including all associated emails, tasks, reminders and files, in one place.
