New information system for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

The EU Deforestation Regulation and the new information system

With the EU Deforestation Regulation Information System (EUDR), the European Commission has created a platform for companies affected by the EU Deforestation Regulation. The aim of this system is to provide a platform for companies affected by the EUDR to submit mandatory due diligence declarations for affected products and commodities.

From the end of 2025, affected companies will be required to ensure that certain commodities and products meet the requirements of the EUDR. If the necessary information cannot be obtained, or if doubts remain, the products may not be allowed to be imported into the EU or placed on the market. This poses a huge risk to the supply chains involved.

Mandatory Due Diligence Statements

The mandatory due diligence statements contain extensive information and must cover the following categories, among others

  • Identification and assessment: The company must identify, assess and document deforestation risks in the supply chain.
  • Mitigation measures: Companies must develop and implement strategies to minimise the identified risks.
  • Documentation: All relevant information and actions must be documented and retained for a specified period of time.

Preparing for EUDR and using the information system

Even though the start of the EUDR has now been postponed until the end of 2025, it is important for potentially affected companies to use the additional time to prepare and to start dealing with the EUDR and the information system now. The EU Commission is already offering information material and training on this platform.
