Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Deloitte Tax Challenge (DTC) 2019

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. How many individuals are involved in the Team category?
Each team must consist of four (4) full-time students who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree programme at the same university, university college, or college.
  2. Am I allowed to join both categories?
Yes, we do not limit Challengers from joining both of the categories.
  3. Is there any limit as to how many teams can represent by a university?
    There is no limit.
  4. Are full time students doing a professional degree (e.g. ACCA) eligible to register?
Yes, as long as the student is registered as a full-time student in a college, university college or university, they are eligible to register.
  5. Most students in private universities pursue 3+0 accountancy programmes, whereby they study foreign tax (not Malaysian tax) and may find it difficult to participate in the Deloitte Tax Challenge. Will the questions in the Challenge only cover Malaysian aspects?
The Deloitte Tax Challenge is open to all students who are pursuing full-time undergraduate programmes. Though the questions are based on Malaysian tax laws, students who are studying foreign tax laws are also encouraged to join the competition, as the primary principles of tax are similar. You may want to start by going through past years questions to get a better idea.
  6. We have students who have just completed and passed their final year exams during the year but will have their convocation at the end of year. Are they eligible to join the Deloitte Tax Challenge for this year as individuals and/or as a team?
Please note that participation is open to students pursuing undergraduate programmes full-time. Final year students are encouraged to apply as well. Only Masters and PhD students are not eligible.
  7. How would I know if I have successfully registered for Deloitte Tax Challenge?
A confirmation email will be sent to all successful registrants (for both individual and all the team members) bi-weekly, and as such, Challengers are advised to check your mailbox 2 weeks after the registration. Should you not receive a confirmation email from us, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at mydtc@deloitte.com.
  8. Are all the registered team members required to sit for the Stage 1 online test?
No, each team is only required to assign ONE (1) team representative (team leader) to sit for the Stage 1 online test.
  9. I registered for the Challenge without taking/completing the Stage 1 online test. Am I eligible to receive the certificate of participation?
E-certificate will be awarded to each Challenger upon completion of each stage. The below refers:
Stage 1 – Registered and completed all 40 questions.
Semi-finals – Submited solution to the assigned case via a video clip uploaded to YouTube within the given time frame.

  12. For the Team Category presentation, is it compulsory for all of the team members to present?
Yes, it is compulsory for all of the team members to present but however there isn’t a minimum time limit for each team members’ presentation and it is entirely up to the team’s arrangements. However, do bear in mind that the team’s arrangements could leave an impression to the judges.
