The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Essentials course is designed in partnership with Enterprise Singapore to help you kickstart your ESG journey. With the support of Deloitte’s global network of experts, the course will provide you with a fundamental understanding and practical tools needed to incorporate ESG principles into your businesses and drive your ESG agenda.

Directors are welcome to attend this prescribed course to fulfil the new Singapore Exchange (SGX) requirements with regard to directors’ training on sustainability.

This program is curated by professionals with extensive industry experience, consolidating a wealth of hands-on knowledge to optimize and incorporate strategic Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) value into businesses. Housed within Deloitte's Southeast Asia Pacific for Sustainability Excellence, the course content is tailored to stay current with industry benchmarks and evolving practices. It further taps into Deloitte's proficiency in a spectrum of sustainability services, encompassing everything from crafting ESG strategies to ensuring compliance with various reporting standards.

Module 1: Introduction to sustainability, global and local trends

This module provides a comprehensive introduction to sustainability, covering ESG pillars, circular economy principles, current trends, heightened Singapore companies' expectations, the business rationale for sustainability, and an overview of reporting practices.

  • Current trends and regulations
  • Increasing expectations on Singapore Companies including SMEs
  • The business case for sustainability
  • Introduction to reporting landscape

Module 2: Overview of the sustainability journey

This module guides participants in initiating their sustainability journey by helping them define purpose, assess their current state, identify environmental impacts, conduct materiality assessments, develop net-zero roadmaps, align strategies, manage data, and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders.

  • Current State Analysis & Materiality Assessment
  • Identifying Environmental Impacts
  • Materiality Assessment Essentials

  • Progress Tracking & Communication with Internal and External Stakeholders

Module 3: Deep dive - sustainability reporting and managing stakeholder expectations

This module provides guidance on navigating the dynamic ESG reporting landscape, covering global and regional regulations, investor disclosure standards, and stakeholder communication strategies, culminating in the creation of a comprehensive sustainability report.

Topics include:

  • Current and emerging global and regional ESG reporting regulations: SGX, SEC, CSRD, etc.
  • Investor disclosure standards and framework: SASB, TCFD, ISSB
  • Other stakeholders standard: GRI
  • Stakeholder Communication Strategies and crafting a cohesive Sustainability Report.

Module 4: Deep dive - climate-related risk and opportunities

This module focuses on understanding and assessing climate risks for businesses, including types of risks, scenario analysis, and prioritizing risk-management actions, while also highlighting the business value of sustainability, identifying climate opportunities for Singapore companies including SMEs, and introducing sustainable finance concepts.

  • The Business Value in Pursuing Sustainability: Identifying and Seizing Climate Opportunities

  • Enterprise Singapore subsidised price: SGD 450*

Enterprise Singapore Subsidy

Subsidy Eligibility Conditions

  • Subsidised course fee of SG$450 (not inclusive of GST) per participant is only applicable to nominees from eligible entities, i.e.:
    • business entity registered and operating in Singapore*; or
    • trade association (TAC) registered with Registry of Societies (ROS) or Accounting & Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), and defined as a non-profit organisation
      * This excludes: (a) non-profit organisations and charities (registered as public companies limited by guarantee); and (b) foreign companies operating in Singapore (registered as branch or representative offices).
  • Each eligible entity will be supported for up to a maximum of 3 participants for each type of ESP-Sustainability Course.
  • Each individual will only be supported once for each type of ESP-Sustainability Course.
  • The company or organisation is liable to make full payment for the course fees if it or its participants are found to be ineligible or fail to complete the course.
