Cooperation between Japan and Ukraine

Over the past few months, the Japanese government has paid much attention to deepening cooperation with Ukraine, both at the level of governments and at the level of promoting the development of business ties between the Japanese and Ukrainian companies. We are pleased to present some of the initiatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) facilitated by Deloitte Ukraine.

Supporting of Ukrainian startups as part of the J-Bridge initiative

JETRO’s J-Bridge business platform is focused on creating connections between Japanese companies and technology companies from other countries, including companies from Ukraine.

As part of the initiative, our team supported JETRO in shortlisting promising startups and participated in the following webinars:

• Startups in Ukraine and Poland: Healthcare Technology (30 January). Ukrainian startups shared their unique solutions for early disease detection and diagnosis. Some of the participants even challenged themselves with an ambitious goal: “To extend the average human life expectancy by 10 years.”
• Startups in Ukraine and Poland: Technology Innovations (21 March). Ukrainian startups gave presentations on technologies related to mosquito control, warehouse robots, and solar-powered blinds.

Vasyl Drobot, Director of Tax and Legal, provided Japanese companies with an overview of the Ukrainian economy and tax incentives in the industry that could make cooperation with Ukrainian startups more attractive.

Supporting the selection of Ukrainian participants for FOODEX Japan 2024

On 5–8 March 2024, the FOODEX Japan 2024 was held at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center. It is the largest annual food and beverage tradeshow in Japan.

JETRO assisted with setting up the Ukrainian National Pavilion that featured 10 Ukrainian food manufacturing companies. Our team supported JETRO in shortlisting the companies to participate in the event.

Participating in a joint webinar of JETRO and EBRD

On 19 March, JETRO and the EBRD co-hosted a webinar “Ukraine’s Business Environment for Recovery”. It has become the first joint project since the Memorandum of Support for Small and Medium Enterprises was signed. The webinar was dedicated to the current state of the Ukrainian economy and investment opportunities.

Vasyl Drobot, Director of Tax and Legal, spoke about the business opportunities for foreign businesses and key measures to stimulate business activity in Ukraine.
