Career Journey: Nupur Dayal

A resilient mind can do wonders

Nupur is a senior solutions advisor with the Risk and Financial Advisory Cyber practice. She is an optimist who loves to chat over a strong cup of coffee. She takes life as it comes and believes in dancing to the rhythm of it. She has been a Deloitte professional for the past nine years.

Nupur joined Deloitte as a campus hire in Hyderabad, then moved to Mumbai as a married woman, started her family in Bengaluru, and now back to Delhi as a single mom of a three-year-old. She lost her husband in 2017. In short the last nine years were a rollercoaster ride for Nupur, both personally and professionally. Her family is her source of strength and she enjoys her work. She believes that the mind can do wonders by focusing on the positive aspect of the future and the beautiful memories of the past.

What were some of the factors that led you to pursue your career at Deloitte?

I hold a master's degree in Information Security. I am fascinated with Cyber, and how it is integrated with our day to day life.

Since my academic years, Deloitte was my dream company, not only because of unlimited growth potential Deloitte provides but also the overall reputation of Deloitte consultants as the best in the business.

The way Deloitte grooms their employees and make them better leaders was a big part of my overall attraction towards Deloitte.

Tell us about your career path at Deloitte (How long have you worked for Deloitte, how has your career evolved?)

Joined as a campus hire in 2011. In 2020 I will be completing my nine years in Deloitte. and so far, it has been an extremely fulfilling journey.

Majority of my work involves—building client-service relationships, managing engagement deliverables managing resources, writing proposals, and developing reports.

I learnt from my coaches/counselors/mentors how to be a good listener and manage my time efficiently and effectively. I was exposed to a variety of new technologies while working across various aspects of Cyber. I feel good about this opportunity because very few get the chance to work across Cyber. Today, I am confident, and I can easily take up any engagement on Cyber and deliver it without missing any SLAs.

In your own words, how would you describe Deloitte's distinctive culture?

Deloitte has a culture that will never let you feel like an outsider. As a campus hire, I joined Deloitte Hyderabad office, a new city, a new state, and a new language but I never felt out of place. It was so easy to mingle with everyone and I give credit to Deloitte’s inclusive culture for this positive experience.

In my career of nine years, I have witnessed that everyone gets an equal opportunity to grow in Deloitte. Everyone around here is approachable, from managers to leaders. Deloitte’s culture of courage encourages you to speak up for yourself.

I am a single mother and that never interfered with my life at Deloitte.

What is one of the most memorable moments in your career at Deloitte so far?

It’s the moment when I needed support and guidance to start my journey ahead after losing my husband in 2017. My organization was there for me. I thank Deloitte for standing beside me when I needed the most.

How do you describe what you do at Deloitte to friends and family?

Explaining what I do to friends and family is tough as everyone outside thinks that Cyber means hacking and I am a hacker! However, to family I just tell them that the bank accounts you use for transferring money are secured because of people like me, and to friends, I just say I chill at work and have the best job anyone can dream of.

What has been the most interesting or surprising about working for Deloitte?

I believe the way it cares for its employee. Deloitte has a "People first policy". I am yet to come across any story that can be compared to how Deloitte supports its professionals throughout their professional careers and may be beyond.
