How did you become a contractor at Deloitte?
I moved into contracting because I was looking for a lifestyle change and greater flexibility to explore what I’m interested in. An opportunity came up at Deloitte to work in one of the risk teams, which is an area I’ve always been passionate about.
I now lead large-scale business transformation programmes with financial services clients. For example, I might be supporting banks to move their headquarters between different countries, ensuring all systems and processes operate efficiently. Prior to that I worked in consulting, and I was able to transfer my skills.
What do you enjoy about your role?
I really enjoy the variety of the work I do, as well as the opportunities to work on lots of complex, challenging projects. I studied chemistry for my degree, which is all about how you put things together to build an end product.
I like the processes involved in problem solving, so that we can deliver the right outcome for the client. At Deloitte I get to work with the best of the best, and I love that the people who work here are so capable. I’m also passionate about helping more junior colleagues to progress in their careers.
FAQs
What type of contractors are Deloitte looking for?
We work with contractors from a variety of different backgrounds, with experience at all levels. We look for people with the ability and desire to join a professional team at speed, adding subject matter know-how and expertise to projects and teams when additional resource is needed.
Typically, how long are assignments?
The length of our assignments can vary depending on the specific requirements of each project. Typically, assignments can range from under three months to twelve months in duration. However, the exact length of an assignment will depend on a variety of factors, including the scope of the project, the level of expertise required, and the needs of our clients.
What happens when my assignment ends?
Ahead of your end date and if there is no contract extension; your manager will have a discussion with you regarding any upcoming projects and you will be introduced to our Talent Community Team. The Talent Community Team is dedicated to supporting you with identifying opportunities to be redeployed on to new projects within Deloitte. There may also be an opportunity to continue your contract or become a permanent member of your team.
How do I get paid and submit my time?
As a contractor you’ll submit timesheets for the hours and days you work via our portal, Fieldglass. Once you’re onboard, you’ll be invited to register on the portal and receive your login details so that you can submit your timesheets on a weekly or monthly basis. Fieldglass automatically generates an invoice on your behalf, as well as instructing your umbrella company to pay you in line with the terms you have agreed with them.
Estimated Time for Pre-Employment Screening Completion?
Once you’re offered a role with Deloitte as a contractor worker, you’ll be invited to start your onboarding journey. Deloitte is a heavily regulated organisation, and this brings with it an onboarding process – but don’t worry, we’re here to help you through as quickly as possible. There are a few mandatory checks that all Deloitte personnel must complete before being able to start, such as evidencing that you have a valid Right to Work. However, any pre-employment checks that are required for your role will be confirmed once the process starts.
You’ll also be assigned a point of contact from within our friendly Onboarding team who will support and guide you along the way. Rest assured we’re here to make your experience as simple and straightforward as possible.
Can I choose my own preferred Umbrella Company?
To ensure the best experience for our contractor workforce we have created a preferred list of Umbrella Companies you can select from. While we cannot accept outside suppliers, we are confident that our in-house list will provide you with the high-quality service you are looking for. If you have any questions about our supplier list or the Umbrella process, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
What happens once I’m onboarded as a Contractor?
Once the administration is complete, you’ll receive your contract via your chosen umbrella company. This will confirm your placement details, pay rate and any agreed deliverables. You’ll also receive a welcome email from us prior to your first day, which confirms your start date and first day details.
Can I use my own device/laptop
To ensure the security and confidentiality of data, we require you to use Deloitte-provided laptops. This allows us to maintain the security and integrity of our firm by managing who has control and access to our systems and data.
If a laptop has been requested for you, it will be with you a couple of days prior to your first day with us. You’ll receive more information about this closer to the time.
Can you accommodate any reasonable adjustments required?
We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all.
We understand that everyone has different needs, and we want to ensure that all candidates and employees have equal opportunities to succeed. If you require any adjustments, please let us know and we will work with you to provide the necessary accommodations.
Are all projects onsite or is there flexibility for remote working?
The nature of our projects can vary greatly, and as such, the possibility of remote working will depend on the specific requirements of each project. However, many of our roles do offer flexible working.
