Our industry leading Financial Risk teams are here to support institutions with some of their most challenging business issues. You’ll work with and learn from experts across Deloitte’s global network, supporting senior clients to achieve the right balance between meeting regulatory requirements and running a commercially successful business.  The teams work across the risk and regulatory landscape, including Credit, Liquidity, Market, Counterparty, Model and Climate risk, as well as capital management and structural reform activities.  We encourage professional development, and you’ll have the opportunity to gain formal credentials, such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Management (FRM) or Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF) qualifications.

Financial Risk is split into four teams:

Traded & Quantitative Risk: We focus on risk and capital modelling for traded risk (market risk & counterparty credit risk) at investment banks, commercial banks and capital markets firms. We also assist firms in development, review of model design and implementation, extensions and remediation, regulatory waiver applications, and analysing the impact of new and upcoming regulation on regulatory capital.

Treasury, Liquidity & Capital Management : We help to address a range of challenges including risk management through governance and Funds Transfer Pricing, optimising operation models and infrastructure, implementing liquidity capital reporting requirements and addressing credit risk regulations.

Structural Efficiency: We respond to the needs of our clients in addressing regulatory and commercial demands on their business. Key elements include Operational continuity, Ringfencing , Legal entity restructuring, Booking models  and Recovery and resolution plans.

Credit Risk Measurement: We specialise in quantifying financial risks and improving risk management more generally. While the team largely focuses on credit risk, we have significant depth across financial, non-financial and operational risks, including climate-related financial risk.

We help businesses to elevate and innovate their internal controls and risk management processes. We are market leaders providing world class risk assurance activities delivered through our Internal Audit and Controls propositions– across a wide range of operational, financial and strategic areas and all industries. As part of our team, you’ll help clients manage financial, operational and regulatory risks that impact all domains of their business and industries: financial services, corporate private sector and public sector. You’ll help them identify, prioritise and manage their risks and get to work across a range of industries and subject matter areas. With the help of your supportive team, you will be central to delivering Deloitte’s purpose: finding solutions to the emerging risks our clients face. We specialise in innovative advice and solutions, offering clients services that help them manage regulatory compliance, corporate governance and operational risk as well as helping them improve firm-wide culture. Deloitte has built a market leading team that supports top tier financial institutions in managing and implementing change, driven by new regulatory and strategic risk management objectives. You will support top tier financial institutions, from retail banks to insurers, as well as asset managers and investment banks. Training and development is important to us, and you will have the opportunity to sit exams with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) – Level 4 UK Regulation and Professional Integrity and Level 6 Regulation and Compliance – to attain relevant technical knowledge for your role with us. You will also have access to Deloitte-wide courses as well as sector-specific training and have the opportunity to be involved with the innovation and design of tech-based solutions used to further support our clients.

Our teams ensure that we manage our business with integrity. This includes developing and managing assurance and business risk frameworks, anti-money laundering, addressing any conflicts of interest amongst clients and maintaining our independence from them, ensuring we’re compliant with regulations and managing the security of our people. An apprenticeship here enables you to experience both the depth and breadth of risk and security within the business, enabling you to make an informed decision about your future career. This scheme is a rotational programme, with time spent gaining experience and understanding key areas of the firm.

We work on all kinds of projects for all kinds of clients. Here are just a few examples.

Assisting Fair Play for UEFA

We’ve worked with UEFA, as independent inspectors and advisors, since 2012. Each year, we inspect their associations and individual clubs for compliance with their ‘Club Licensing’ and ‘Financial Fair Play’ regulations. Using our extensive knowledge of the regulations, accounting standards, and the sports industry, we also help them update the regulations via an annual de-brief. Our latest will be released ahead of the 2018 Champions League Final in Kiev.

Saving on Software for a Global Bank

One of our largest projects ever, we helped an international bank to save money on its software purchases and reduce the risk of licence non-compliance. This Software Asset Management (SAM) work involved helping the client build a comprehensive set of processes and controls to transform the way it manages its software, right across the globe. It allowed us to stretch our creativity, to challenge ourselves, to push the boundaries of how SAM could be run for such a large organisation.

Digital Governance Programme

An EMEA-wide project for a major pharmaceutical company. We helped our client define new ways of working with patients and medical groups across the region. This involved implementing new processes, controls and underlying technology for over 20 affiliates in 86 countries.

Mitigating the risks of machine learning

A leading UK retail bank was looking to implement machine learning technology across the business, as part of their broader digital transformation. Our job was to conduct a review of their newly designed Machine Learning Risk and Control Framework, and make clear, prioritised recommendations, so they could better manage the risks associated with adopting this innovative technology.

“There are so many opportunities to get involved with exciting projects.”

Everyone here is encouraged to create and collaborate every day. We even have a dedicated Innovation Team within Risk Advisory. Who are there to help colleagues progress their ideas through the innovation process, from developing a business case, to pitching for funding, to production.

We’re responsible for many of the firm’s most successful innovations. Just one example is BEAT (Behavioural Emotion and Analytics Tool). This voice and behavioural analysis engine tracks the emotion and language used in human speech. BEAT can analyse the spoken word far faster than any human can, and is able to score interactions based on pre-determined criteria. It can look for psychologically-defined characteristics and track key words or phrases. BEATs uses are broad and include call centre automation, insurance claim fraud detection, compliance analysis, and trading market abuse detection.
