Deloitte Digital Connect

Scaling impact through technology

Deloitte Digital Connect, a programme run by Deloitte in collaboration with CAST, aims to help charities scale their impact by supporting charity digital leaders to build capacity and capability within their organisation.

About Deloitte Digital Connect

The impact of COVID-19 has meant 82% of charities now see digital as more of a priority. While there’s growing recognition of the vital role of digital in rebuilding from COVID-19, this comes with its own challenges:

  • Just over half of charities now have a strategy for digital
  • Upskilling staff and volunteers is the second most important challenge faced by charities
  • Only a third of charities have someone leading on digital either as part of or in addition to their work - this is a 10% decline from last year!

Coupled with growing external challenges such as the cost-of-living crisis, charities find themselves more stretched than ever.

Deloitte Digital Connect has been developed in direct response to the impact of COVID-19 on the third sector to support charities in the UK, connecting them with expertise, advice, and a network to support their digital development.

Working with a pilot of 35 charities in January 2022, we aspired to develop a peer community, utilising Deloitte’s skills, and expertise. This included delivering and sharing over 350 digital resources as well as mentoring, group coaching calls, workshops, masterclasses, support sessions and monthly newsletters.

Key activities and timeline

  • 1-1 mentoring and troubleshooting on their project delivered by Deloitte UK volunteer digital experts.
  • Group training sessions: a range of workshops on digital and design practices delivered by Deloitte UK and CAST’s own experts and partners.
  • Peer support sessions: delivered by CAST facilitators in small cohorts.
  • Self-serve support: bespoke digital resources shared with digital leads.

The programme will comprise of three phases:

Discovery (November - December 2022)

Onboarding (January - February 2023)

Charities will be matched with Deloitte volunteers to review their project roadmap and start making progress on their project. They will collaborate with other charities on the programme through peer support and will learn new knowledge through workshops.

Take off (March - April 2023)

Charities will implement their project roadmap and carry on learning new knowledge through group training, peer support, self-serve support and 1-1 mentoring/troubleshooting.

Technology has the power to transform communities, to connect, to enable, to empower - but also to exclude. It’s why we must always keep the human interest and impact front of mind when developing new technology solutions. It’s also why I’m proud of the creation of our Deloitte Digital Connect programme. By supporting charities develop their digital knowledge, scale their reach to help those most in need, and put people at the centre of design solutions, we’re working to reduce the digital divide.

This was such an enjoyable experience where I felt I was giving back to the community through sharing my expertise to help a charity to develop their use of data.

About CAST

CAST helps people use digital for social good.

Its mission is to create a more responsive, resilient, and digitally enabled social sector. CAST does this by supporting non-profits to embed digital and design across their services, strategy and governance, and work with sector leaders, funders and Government to make this happen.

Deloitte’s long-term commitment to supporting charities to develop their digital capabilities means we’re able to build on last year’s partnership to provide even greater support to charities across the UK. Being able to harness digital, data and design is critical for charities to deliver the vital support they provide to individuals and communities, and equally vital to ensure that civil society has an influential voice. CAST is delighted to support Deloitte and a new cohort of charities.
