Deloitte announces new appointments to UK Executive team

Deloitte has announced a number of new appointments to its UK Executive, whose skills and experience will help the firm continue to deliver growth while investing for the future through skills, innovation and digital adoption.

Appointed by Senior Partner and CEO Richard Houston, who was recently re-elected in his role until 2027, each member of the UK Executive takes responsibility for leading an area of the firm’s operations and strategy, alongside client delivery and people development.

The following appointments will be effective from 1 February 2023 unless stated otherwise.

  • Cindy Chan will become the Managing Partner Risk Advisory. Cindy is currently the Financial Services Leader for Risk Advisory and has been with the firm for 30 years. She is also a member of Deloitte’s UK Oversight Board, which oversees how Deloitte meets its regulatory and legal responsibilities.
  • Rob Cullen will take on the role of Managing Partner Consulting. Rob first joined the firm’s Consulting practice in 1998 and is currently the lead partner for Deloitte’s enterprise technology practice, which, following the 2020 acquisition of Keytree, became the UK’s largest SAP-enabled transformation practice.
  • Philip Mills has been named UK Managing Partner, effective 1 June 2023, succeeding Stephen Griggs who will be retiring next year. Philip joined the firm 20 years ago and for the last three years has been Global Tax & Legal Leader.
  • Charindra Pathiwille will become the new Managing Partner Financial Advisory. Charindra is currently Head of London Transaction Services in Financial Advisory and has been with the firm since 2002.
  • Nick Turner has been appointed as Managing Partner Growth. In this new role, Nick will be responsible for setting and delivering on the firm’s UK Growth strategy. He will also lead on Deloitte’s strategic advisory services, innovation and all industry and client programmes, including brand.
  • Finally, Duncan Farrow-Smith has been appointed to a newly-created role of Chief Strategy Officer. The CSO role will focus on how the firm adapts to issues such as the economy, geopolitics and the competitive landscape.

I and the rest of the Executive look forward to working with this next generation of leaders so that we can continue the great progress we have already made in embedding purpose in all our decision-making and succeed as a business in the years ahead.

Deloitte’s new UK Executive will consist of 14 partners from across the firm and will comprise 29% women and 14% from an ethnic minority background.

The news comes after Deloitte Global recently selected Joe Ucuzoglu as the next CEO of Deloitte Global, succeeding Punit Renjen, who is retiring on 31 December 2022.

Biographies

Cindy Chan

As of 1 February 2023, Cindy will become the Managing Partner Risk Advisory. She is currently the Financial Services industry Leader for Deloitte’s Risk Advisory practice.

Cindy is also a member of Deloitte’s UK Oversight Board and our North and South Europe Board. She has extensive experience in supporting financial services firms’ management and their Boards with risk management and governance reviews, regulatory change programmes and investigations including Section 166 Skilled Person reviews.

Rob Cullen

Rob will become Managing Partner Consulting as of 1 February 2023. Rob currently leads Deloitte’s Enterprise Technology & Performance practice which includes, following the 2020 acquisition of Keytree, the UK’s largest SAP-enabled transformation practice.

Rob joined Deloitte as a consultant in 1998. In his current role, Rob has been focused on delivering large-scale technology-enabled transformation projects for clients, predominantly in the telecommunications, technology and media industry.

Duncan Farrow-Smith

Duncan has been appointed to Chief Strategy Officer, effective 1 February 2023. Duncan is currently Head of Strategy, Analytics and M&A in Deloitte’s Consulting business. This comprises the Monitor Deloitte and Net Zero strategy teams, the firm’s AI & Data practice and AI Institute, and its M&A strategy & transformation capability.

He has been at the firm for 26 years, having joined as an analyst in 1996.

Philip Mills

Philip will become UK Managing Partner on 1 June 2023. Based in London, Philip currently leads Deloitte Global’s Tax & Legal business, a role he has held since 2019. Prior to this, he was the Deloitte Global Business Tax leader for two years and led the Deloitte UK Business Tax practice for seven years.

For nearly 20 years, Philip has focused on M&A tax, particularly on private equity, real estate and hedge funds. He has worked on significant, large and complex European transactions in recent years, as well as supporting fund advisers. Most recently, he has taken on advisory roles to some of Deloitte’s more significant multinational corporate clients.

Philip has a Physics Bachelor of Science degree from Liverpool University, and he is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and is a member of the Institute of Tax.

Charindra Pathiwille

Charindra is currently Head of London Transaction Services in Financial Advisory and will become Managing Partner Financial Advisory as of 1 February 2023.

Charindra co-leads Deloitte’s infrastructure investors team in the UK and across Europe. After joining Deloitte in 2002 and starting his career in audit, he has spent more than 15 years focused on working in the infrastructure market advising infrastructure funds, direct pension and insurance investors undertake transactions in the UK and Europe across all sub sectors.

Nick Turner

Nick will become Managing Partner Growth as of 1 February 2023. He is currently UK Private Sector Consulting Lead, responsible for Deloitte’s consulting services across several industries including consumer, healthcare & life sciences, energy, resources & industrials and technology, media & telecommunications.

Nick has a marketing background and was a founding partner of Deloitte Digital in 2012. Building upon a specialism in commercial effectiveness and digital transformation, Nick has gone on to lead some of the firm’s most important client relationships.
