Deloitte Legal strengthens growing employment law and financial services team with new partner hire

23 September 2022

Deloitte Legal has today announced the appointment of Julia Gorham to its growing employment law team and as a member of its core financial services sector team. Julia brings 20 years of experience supporting international and global multi-national companies across all sectors, including financial services, technology, and pharma, with strategic cross-border employment law and human resources projects, internal investigations and compliance.

Julia joins Deloitte Legal having previously held roles with Allen & Overy, J.P. Morgan, DLA Piper and Seyfarth. Julia’s arrival marks the fourth partner appointment at Deloitte Legal in 2022, and the second to join the financial services team; following the recent appointment of RegTech and financial services regulation specialist, Clare Jenkinson.

Marian Bloodworth, partner and financial services lead for employment law at Deloitte Legal commented: “We are excited to welcome Julia to the team. We look forward to working together to expand and develop our employment law offering across all our clients, in particular those in financial services where the sector is faced with increasingly complex regulation and employment law challenges.

“Our clients’ agendas continue to focus on managing hybrid and remote ways of working as those continually evolve, as well as the need for tangible culture changes that promote greater diversity and inclusion. At the same time, they also need to manage human resources regulatory risk across a huge range of markets and jurisdictions.”

David Williams, head of employment law for Deloitte Legal, commented: “Julia has extensive experience in guiding global institutions through employment law complexities during times of change and in supporting them as they address areas of challenge. Her appointment reflects the Deloitte Legal employment law team’s commitment to further developing its international financial services reach and range of services for clients.”

Deloitte’s multidisciplinary model means that clients not only have access to sector specialist employment lawyers from Deloitte Legal, including financial services, but also to related expertise across the wider firm. This includes global mobility, employment taxes, regulatory remuneration, risk advisory, assurance, human capital consulting, and forensic advisory services.

Julia Gorham, Deloitte Legal partner, said: “Organisations are navigating the current economic environment and some of the fastest-changing social conditions in decades, creating huge challenges and opportunities for the future direction of their businesses as well as increasing complexities in the management of their employee populations. In the regulated sector, financial services firms continue to be at the forefront of change and regulatory pressures. Legal issues in this space are never just about legal advice alone and always include a range of other issues including human resources, risk, reward, technology, immigration and many other stakeholders.

“Deloitte’s offering allows us to provide expertise across the board, having an impressive breadth of expertise and services across its global network which is hugely exciting. I look forward to providing employment legal services to meet the ever-demanding needs of Deloitte’s clients and internationally-operating financial institutions in particular.”

Today’s news follows the recent partner appointments of Cavan Fabris, Peggy Pauwels and Clare Jenkinson. In the last two years, Deloitte Legal has more than doubled its UK lawyer headcount and tripled the number of partners.
