Arif Virji

Arif is the Ontario M&A Tax Leader and Tax & Legal Lead for Deloitte’s Canadian Private Equity Practice, with over 17 years of experience in accounting and tax.

Arif provides tax structuring and diligence services for Canadian and US financial sponsors. Arif has led and contributed to the structuring of various mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and divestitures, including the design of tax-efficient investments, take-private, spin-off and carve-out transactions. Arif has led the structuring of various GP stake, continuation fund and investment fund transactions, including designing tax-efficient structures for financial sponsors and carried interest arrangements for Canadian and US investment professionals of leading private equity funds.

Arif is Deloitte Canada’s lead tax partner on Altas Partners, Birch Hill Equity Partners, Blackstone and Torquest Partners and, through these roles, has extensive experience navigating, identifying and collaborating with subject matter experts within Deloitte’s global network.

Arif is a Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) and has an Honors Business Administration (HBA) degree, graduating with distinction, from the Richard Ivey School of Business (University of Western Ontario).
