Internal Controls

Developing a world-class Record to Report (RtR) design book to realize a standard and modular set of processes and controls

How to leverage this case?
This case highlights one of Deloitte’s unique projects demonstrating Process & Control transformation capabilities delivered by a team with a unique blend of process, Financial Control and Technology experts.

Situation
A global leader in the beverage industry wanted to standardize the Record-to-Report (R2R) processes in their key markets. The intention was to evolve to a common set of processes, controls and policies enabled by technology solutions that would allow a high degree of standardization, while respecting local statutory requirements.

Approach & solution
Deloitte engaged a global team from multiple countries to support the ask of the client, including functional experts on R2R, Internal Controls, Tax, SAP, Treasury, etc. The approach included mapping the current processes in each country across eight workstreams to the Deloitte ‘golden standard’ for R2R processes – and eventually evolve a set of standardized processes and controls that are contextualized for the client organizations. Our approach included detailed process walk throughs, SME interviews, multiple workshops, developing a Standardization index to track progress and significant leverage of cutting-edge technology solutions. The end output from this phase was the 600+ page standard Design book for R2R, duly validated by all the markets. The implementation of this Design book is the next phase of work, where Deloitte is also engaged.

Benefits
Creation of standard processes and related internal controls for R2R that would allow simplification, cost elimination and increased compliance to controls. The standard processes would also enable a higher technology adoption, thus eliminating the need for expensive manual interventions. The new processes and related internal controls system will enable the clients to achieve world-class standards in a phased manner, when the Design book is implemented.
