Deloitte advises shareholders of The Match Factory GmbH on sale to MUBI Inc.

The distribution, streaming and production company MUBI  has acquired the distribution and production companies The Match Factory and Match Factory Productions.

Deloitte resp. Deloitte Legal advised the shareholders of both companies on tax law, the financial evaluation of the offer as well as regarding the legal contract documentation and was able to guarantee an efficient and holistic support from one source through a cross-disciplinary cooperation of the different Deloitte services.

Michael Weber, Managing Director of The Match Factory, commented: "Working with the Deloitte team was extremely successful and a great pleasure. We felt well taken care of at every point of the process. Mathias Reif and his team were the most important partners on our side during this process and were the key factor in bringing this deal to a successful close."

Founded in 2006, The Match Factory has handled the distribution of numerous international hits, including "Waltz with Bashir," "Toni Erdmann," "Girl" and the Palme d'Or winner "Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives." In 2013, Match Factory Productions joined the company with arthouse titles such as "Memoria," "Never Gonna Snow Again," "Martin Eden" and "The Traitor."

The management team of The Match Factory will continue to run the business and focus on its own film list as well as deals and projects already in process. The Berlin and Cologne locations will remain in place. In addition, the company will expand its presence with the help of MUBI's London headquarters and offices in New York and Los Angeles.

The acquisitions are seen as an important step for the international film business and have been widely reported in the industry (e.g. in Variety - MUBI Acquires Production and Sales Company The Match Factory - Variety, Screendaily - Mubi buys The Match Factory in major international deal | News | Screen (screendaily.com) or in The Hollywood Reporter - Why Mubi Bought Match Factory – The Hollywood Reporter)
