The members of Communications Planning in each of the offices in Kansai, including Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe, and Takamatsu (which represents Setouchi Region) organized and promoted this volunteer program for Impact Month. Through the planning process the Communications Planning members decided that one overarching activity in Kansai could help foster a sense of unity among all offices in this region, while encouraging people to participate in volunteer activities organized by each of the offices. The Osaka Office cleaned up the area around Midosuji, the Kyoto Office covered the area near the Kamo River, the Kobe Office was in charge of the neighborhood of Sannomiya, while the Takamatsu Office participated in a cleaning event, “Takamatsu Clean Day.” A total of 216 people participated in the programs.

Results and Going Forward

The Impact Month programs turned out to be a fulfilling experience, confirming the “one team spirit” of the Kansai office as we saw so many members coming together early in the morning. Passersby thanked us for our “great work, from early morning,” assuring us that we were truly contributing to the community. To be honest, the planning presented a lot of challenges, but efforts made by the Communications Planning members from each of the offices led to the success of the Neighborhood Clean-Up Around the Five Offices in Kansai. Kudos to all members of Communications Planning! We intend to encourage more members of Deloitte Tohmatsu Group, not just Audit & Assurance but across all businesses, including Risk Advisory, Consulting, Financial Advisory, and Tax and Legal to participate in Impact Month activities next year.

Takamatsu Clean Day

Participants’ Comments
  • Volunteering for clean-up in the early morning set a good course for my working day.
  • I was so focused on picking up litter that the time passed very quickly.
  • I found a lot of small litter like cigarette butts around our office, although I had previously thought the area was relatively clean.
  • Cleaning up the riverbank in the morning - that is out of my daily routine. It was a good switch.
  • We could foster the team spirit of the Group by continuing activities like this on our own, not just during the Impact Month.
