Speakers' Profile

Sagar Chawla
Director, Deloitte Singapore

Sagar has over 14 years of financial risk experience in banking and financial services. He specialises in consulting assignments which require functional and domain expertise for credit risk transformation for retail and non-retail portfolios. Through his experience, Sagar has developed in-depth expertise in climate risk stress testing, scenario generation, IFRS9 implementation, model risk management, operational risk management, credit risk stress testing, IRRBB, ICAAP, RCSA and KRIs assignments. He has also worked on the implementation of IRB approach, which includes PD and LGD model development and RWA computation for corporate, SME and retail portfolios. Sagar holds a Master’s in Financial Engineering from the National University of Singapore and a Master’s in Banking & Finance from the National Institute of Bank Management, Pune.

John Sayer
Executive Director, Deloitte CarbonCare Asia

John Sayer has a background in sustainability issues and human development, poverty reduction, occupational health and safety and equality issues. He has had held various roles at organisations such as Oxfam International, UK Ethical Trading Initiative, UN Global Compact and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), focusing on addressing issues such as education, climate change, responsible supply chains and sustainability reporting. Joining Carbon Care Asia in 2014 he has worked on green and sustainable finance standards, ESG reporting, and the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals into corporate reporting. He designed and taught the Sustainability Professionals course at Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education. He is now Executive Director of Deloitte CarbonCare Asia, working to enable business, finance and public institutions to improve sustainability and climate standards and targets. 

Benjamin Ang
Manager, Deloitte Malaysia

Benjamin is a Manager at Deloitte Malaysia in the Sustainability & Climate practice. Through his previous roles, he has delivered various solutions in-house and as a consultant to various listed companies in Malaysia. Benjamin’s primary experiences relate to delivering recommendations from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures ("TCFD"), Net Zero Roadmap, Climate Scenario Analysis, Carbon Emission Assessments (Scopes 1 to 3), Sustainability Reporting, Materiality Matrices, ESG Rating, Green Bond Second Party Opinion services, Green Bond Frameworks, Sustainability-linked Bonds and Sustainability-linked Loans, Impact-based Corporate Social Responsibility projects and ESG Supply Chain assessments. 

Nirnita Talukdar
Regional Coordinator, Asia Pacific, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)

Nirnita Talukdar is the Regional Coordinator for Asia Pacific at UNEP FI. She is based in New Delhi and brings over 12 years of experience working in the development sector  with thematic expertise in sustainable finance and the interface of business and human rights, along with proficiency in research on financial sector accountability, and communication and brand building. Prior to joining UNEP FI, Nirnita was working with a corporate accountability-based organisation- ‘SumOfUs’ - to help draw attention to the bond market and to help all market players transition. She has also worked as the Policy and Engagement Manager at Oxfam’s ‘Fair Finance Asia’ programme towards strengthening the narrative and promoting sustainable finance in Asia. She has coordinated research and co-authored publications on Asian cross-border financial flows, health and safety of migrant workers, and analysis of key non-financial disclosure policies, among others.

Maheen Arshad
TCFD and Climate Risk Programme Specialist, United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)

As part of UNEP FI, Maheen works on the TCFD programme. The programme is designed to help global banks and investors identify, assess and manage their climate-related financial risks. Her work strongly focuses on climate scenario analysis, climate stress testing, and macro-modeling of climate change. Maheen has a Masters in Conservation from University College London (UCL) and a Bachelors in Ecology from the University of Toronto and has previously worked at WWF.
