Our Enterprise Blockchain service is designed to help clients understand and capitalize on the benefits of blockchain technology and how to link those benefits to ESG goals. There is ample opportunity for organizations to foster a positive impact on our environment and society. Increasingly, more organizations recognize their responsibility, and blockchain technology offers a way to broadcast the positive impact without the need for trust. Next to changing consumer expectations, there are also (upcoming) regulations that will render proper tracking and reporting by organizations mandatory (e.g., Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive 2024, EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products, and New EU Battery Regulation). 

Our Approach

To leverage the advantages and address the inquiries surrounding enterprise blockchain, our focus is on the following 3 offerings:

Blockchain Solutions for Sustainability: Blockchain can be used to broadcast transparency about sustainability efforts, one solutions for this is the ESI platform. The environmental and social impact (ESI) platform is a central place to safely store and verify evidence (tamper-proof) publicly accessible to anyone who wishes to assess the impact. Independent third parties do testing, monitoring and validation on the platform. Uploading ESG related data in real-time to a blockchain ensures that this data cannot be altered in the future, creating a best practice for backing up ESG claims, increasing trust and countering greenwashing.

Responsible Value Chain (Digital Product Passports): Deloitte assists organizations with strategizing on a vision and composing a roadmap with clear milestones in line with their objectives and desired level of blockchain adoption while embracing circular economy and sustainability within their service offerings. This includes integrating digital product passports for existing and new products. Digital product passports offer a transparent way of tracking product information. This allows regulators, other organizations and even consumers to identify and verify the origin of products. Again, building digital product passports on a blockchain offers the benefit of immutable records. Zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) can protect data privacy, enabling transparency and trust without giving away sensitive or confidential data.

Responsible Enterprise Solutions: Next to serving organizations with their blockchain needs to increase transparency, several enterprise solutions also help raise efficiency. In traditional systems, transaction participants frequently engage intermediaries to validate and enforce agreement terms. Smart contracts execute transactions based on predefined conditions embedded in the contract's logic. This reduces the vulnerabilities to fraud and costs attributable to intermediaries.
Another enterprise solution is Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) which makes processes where verification is needed more efficient. It is, however, important to build SSI solutions responsibly and in compliance with personal data regulations, this is where ZKP is again useful.
