Deloitte Singapore launches new audit internship program designed for career acceleration
SINGAPORE, 15 July 2020 – Deloitte Singapore has launched its new Deloitte Accelerated Career Program under its Audit & Assurance practice that will give Accountancy and Accountancy & Finance students at local universities and polytechnics a head-start in their careers.
This program, a first-of-its kind in Singapore in the accounting sector, is designed to develop future accountants and is open to Accountancy and Accountancy & Finance undergraduates and diploma students in the local universities and polytechnics. Through an extended period of internship, the two tracks within the program - named FasTrack for university undergraduates, and Propel for polytechnic diploma students respectively - will equip students with the necessary skills and experience to perform at a higher level as a new graduate.
Successful completion of the program will enable the students to secure full-time, permanent employment with the Audit & Assurance practice in Deloitte Singapore after graduation, and they will start their career at a higher entry-level position with a higher entry remuneration. The Deloitte Accelerated Program aims to align the work experience with the career aspirations of high performing graduates, and these graduates in the program, with the learning and skills acquired during their internship, will perform higher level and more challenging work compared to if they were to join Deloitte through the traditional route as a graduate hire. Correspondingly, career advancement will be accelerated and they can thus expect to hit significant career milestones faster.
Mr YANG Chi Chih, Audit & Assurance Talent Partner, Deloitte Singapore said: “In today’s world of rapid digitalisation and technological advancements, businesses are becoming more complex. The way we perform audit is transforming fast to meet the changing needs of businesses and the next generation of accountants need to be prepared for these changes and those to come.”
“The Deloitte Accelerated Career Program is designed to attract young talent who are passionate and committed to a career in the profession, and are eager to embrace the changes that lay ahead. For the students, this program will give them a sense of job security, which is particularly important in today’s times, and they will have the opportunity to experience the breadth and depth of what being in the profession entails, which will benefit them both personally and professionally. For Deloitte, this program allows us to attract and retain the best talent so that we can continue to provide the best for our people and our clients as the business landscape continues to evolve,” added Chi Chih.
The application criteria for undergraduates include possessing a strong interest in a career in Audit & Assurance, and being able to commit to 30 accumulative weeks of internship that can be done in phases during their time in university. For diploma students, along with having a strong interest in a career in Audit & Assurance, they must also be able to commit to an internship period of 12 accumulative weeks during their diploma studies, and an internship period of 20 accumulative weeks during their undergraduate studies.
During their internship at Deloitte, these students will be given world-class professional training and hands-on experience in real client engagements, with a focus on working with technology and executing higher value work. They will also have on-the-job coaching and mentorship by experienced managers and full support from Deloitte for recognised professional qualifications.
Mr Shariq BARMAKY, Audit & Assurance Regional Managing Partner, Deloitte Southeast Asia said, “It is an exciting time for the next generation of accountants. The profession is evolving, and future accountants will not only need the traditional skills of technical knowledge, communication and decision-making, but also new skills, for example those related to technology. With this Accelerated Career Program, we want to be at the forefront of the profession to develop and prepare these students so that they can thrive in their career. This in turn will contribute to our success as an organisation, and also to the vibrancy of the profession.”
