Louis D’Amore, Founder and President of IIPT

Louis D’Amore is the Founder and President of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism (IIPT). He has been instrumental in promoting the travel and tourism industry as the world’s first “Global Peace Industry” since founding IIPT in 1986.

Louis worked at Deloitte in Montreal from 1966 to 1969. He later founded his own consulting firm, L. J. D’Amore and Associates, which conducted the world’s first comprehensive study on the future of tourism in 1976 and introduced social and environmental dimensions into the tourism matrix. Louis subsequently became the “futurist” for the Canadian tourism industry.

IIPT introduced the concept of sustainable tourism at its first Global Conference in Vancouver in 1988, and its 1994 Global Conference in Montreal was the world’s first major international conference on sustainable tourism. Louis will be returning to Montreal in May or June 2018 for a belated Official Conference of the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development co-organized with the UN World Tourism Organization.
