Deloitte Canada and McInnes Cooper welcome former cabinet minister the Hon. Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C.

Toronto, December 15, 2020 – Deloitte and McInnes Cooper are pleased to announce the Honourable Peter MacKay has recently joined both firms as a strategic advisor.

At Deloitte Canada, Mr. MacKay will provide strategic advice on projects related to the firm’s leading Government & Public Services Industry practice. He will focus on defense modernization, justice reform, infrastructure and economic development. Mr. MacKay will leverage his extensive public sector and legal experience to deliver executive advisory support, serving Deloitte’s clients in the public and private sectors.

In his role with McInnes Cooper, one of Atlantic Canada’s most prestigious law firms, Mr. MacKay will provide counsel to the firm’s clients related to his broad areas of expertise. In doing so, MacKay will collaborate with McInnes Cooper professionals to bring strategic value to business and public sector leaders within and outside of Atlantic Canada.

Peter served in the Parliament of Canada for over 18 years as a cabinet minister in high-profile portfolios, including Justice and Attorney General, Department of National Defense, Foreign Affairs and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. He chaired the Government National security committee for almost 10 years.

He started his legal career in Nova Scotia as a Crown Prosecutor (Criminal Law Division) and worked as a general practitioner before entering politics. Peter earned a B.A. from Acadia University in 1987, and his LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 1990. He is entering his 30th year as a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers society and is also called to the bar in Ontario.
