Deloitte Legal advises Mitsubishi HiTech Paper Europe GmbH on the sale of its Flensburg paper mill

A multi-disciplinary and multi-location Deloitte team led by Corporate/M&A Partner Andreas Jentgens and Counsel Marc Oliver Stock advised Mitsubishi HiTec Paper Europe GmbH (MPE) on the sale of MPE Flensburg GmbH (MPEF). The buyers are several funds advised by Quantum Capital Partners. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

MPE is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Paper Mills (MPM), a company that not only manufactures and develops printing papers, printing plate materials and printing systems for offset and other printing processes, but also supplies media for virtually all recording formats, including pressure-sensitive, thermal, magnetic, electrographic, silver halide photographic and inkjet paper. In addition, MPM is expanding its operating business to include functional materials such as high-function filters and is increasingly focusing on research and development in new business areas.

MPEF is active in the production of specialty papers with a focus on thermal and barrier papers and operates one paper machine and two coating lines with a total capacity of 35,000 tons per year. The Flensburg mill has more than 300 years of history and is known for its technological expertise, product specifications and high-quality paper used in a variety of applications, including event tickets, lottery tickets, transportation, food stamps, cash register receipts, packaging and more.

Deloitte provided extensive support to MPE during the sale. Thanks to the interdisciplinary cooperation of the legal advisors of Deloitte Legal with the experts of Deloitte's Corporate Finance Advisory Team, led by Claudius Thiell, following the "one-stop-shop" approach, the transaction was completed efficiently and successfully. With this transaction, the Deloitte team once again demonstrated its capabilities in the areas of Financial Lead Advisory and Legal & SPA Advisory as well as its competence in the execution of cross-border M&A transactions.
